Except, Disney is not eliminating the park reservation requirement for non-date based tickets. Yes, I realize that that is the rule. But that was not my point. Right now, AP holders can hop at 2PM with, or without, a reservation. After January 9, hopping with a reservation has no time limit. If they also dropped the time restriction for having no reservation then it, effectively, removes the reservation requirement as one simply makes no reservation and goes where they want when they want.
The verbiage I've read so far does not address this, so that's why this is an if.
But it is independent of the actual rules in this case.
Cheers.
Disney has addressed this with a footnote at the bottom of the Disney Parks Blog post. *To use the Park Hopper benefit, Annual Passholders must make a theme park reservation for the first park they plan to visit AND enter that first park prior to visiting another. Or, they can enter a theme park without a reservation on a “good-to-go” date for that park or after 2 p.m. (except Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays) before visiting another park.

I had read the main text but not seen the footnote. Oh well, there goes the loophole. Should have figured they'd see this, too

I am taking the glass half empty approach. Someone has to. For me, the fact that they;re removing it this soon is a glass completely full.
Cheers.
This change does not impact me, my pass has no restrictions. But I hate that this rule is still in effect for everyone else. There simply should not be any restrictions, for any of the tickets. Disney has made something easy to be hard.

Still NOT happy. There is no reason for park reservations at all. CoVid is done, revenge travel is done, put things back to normal so ALL of us can be able to visit Disney using our travel styles (I’m shouting out for us go with the flow types!). Still not participating in Disney parks until those ressies are gone. This.....100%!!!

"Thank the Phoenicians!" aside: boy the reply and quote buttons are confusing! Reply means reply without having to scroll to the bottom or top and then hit reply there. Quote means quote message And no I cannot change them. But the Phoenicians was my favorite one too.

I have money set aside that I am, no joke, seriously thinking about not using for a direct purchase (or any add ons really). This has gone on long enough.

Disney has made something easy to be hard. I do get that, and I agree with you on that score. In the end, though, we're all drinking from different glasses, and our definitions of "full" are different. Also, it depends upon whether one is looking from the standpoint of impact to guests (in which case we're still a full glass), or a view of Disney and their policies, in which case I concur with the "glass half full" as the reservations are silly.
In any event, a step forward, which is hard to deny.
Cheers.

Why is Disney taking so long to reverse the Park Hopper Rules? At this point, there is no reason to keep them except to continue being cheap and squeezing the most profit. People are paying more now for a single day to visit WDW and are getting so much less. The up-charges are worse than sailing on a Carnival Cruise Ship. This. It should be easy-peasy to remove that part of the code in the software with that pesky 2pm them and make this live NOW. And even if there needed to be some testing, there's no reason this couldn't be handled by the end of the week. Give the guests some magic now and make this effective immediately.

What was the ‘norm’ before, needs to come back. That it took so long, is ridiculous. They always had the capability to monitor crowds in parks ie Xmas day, NY’s Eve. That people who spend money on AP’s still don’t have the same privileges!? I don’t plan ahead, I like to vacation on a whim. I’ve been going to Disney since the early 90’s. So it’s not that I have to see this or that. Of course we all have our favorites. But I don’t want to plan it out. We always would get hoppers. Because in the morning we may want to head to one park, the in the evening another. But we may want to go to another before 2. Don’t charge me more and give me less. The reservation system was done during reopening during a time none of us had been through. That was then, we are going into 2024 and these restrictions at this point are not reasonable. I’m tired of companies that are still using the ‘due to Covid’ bs. It’s not 2020.

Yes great news! However, if they would just remove park reservations....we use military tickets which are not date based so we think we will still need park ressies...

Hooray for more progress! And yes, it’s progress, though not as much as desired by some.
I have yet to be too negatively impacted by the park reservations even when they were much more restrictive. Did I like them, hell no, but they were tolerable.
Agreed completely that it’s bullshit that any reservation restrictions are still in place. But can’t bring myself to truly care.
That said, I’ll agree much more with the naysayers as soon as someone is actually closed out of a park. Anytime I’ve tried in recent months a park reservation is easily available to book last-second. Hence, come January it will be some seconds on the phone prior to entering the park and then it’s the same as having no restrictions as all.
However, if I couldn’t book whatever park I was about to walk into I’d be much more annoyed. Until/unless that actually occurs, I’m just fine with how things are.

It's funny to me that they announce this 'good news' at the same time of the price increases as to distract us all from the bad news.

Not happy that when I buy tickets for my grand kids and family, they won’t have to make a park reservation but I will.

Making it easier for me to hold onto my money for sure.

Absolutely, I just wish it was a complete drop of park hopping rules.
