We can book Aulani tomorrow for our May, '24 trip. As of today, one of the six nights is not available using points. The other five are available, but it'll be two nights island view and three nights ocean view.
The one night we need is available via a $ reservation, so my thought is to book all of the nights available with points, pay for the one night with $ and then wait list for that night so we can use points if it becomes available.
Thu/Fri--island view/points Sat--island view/$ Sun/Mon/Tue--ocean view/points
Does this make sense, and does anyone here have good or bad Aulani wait list experiences?
I think I'm also going to wait list the Sun-Tues nights for island view, because it'll save us a few points and the ocean view isn't a priority.

Update and question...
We booked the nights of 5/30 and 5/31 and have waitlisted the nights of 6/1-6/4 for ocean view and island garden view (studio).
I'm stalking availability a few times/day and if I see even one night for the nights we've waitlisted, I'll grab it.
If the nights we want do not become available on pints, they are available for $$$$, but I'm not inclined to pay $1000/night. Options I can think of:
1. Pay cash for the nights we want at Aulani, then if the room becomes available on points, cancel the cash room; 2. Pay cash for the night of 6/1, check out on 6/2 and stay somewhere more reasonably priced.
We have Hyatt points that could be used to book a Hyatt hotel in Waikiki.
WWYD and how long would you wait to finalize your plans?
I have the flights picked out and they're available with the credit cards points we have.
