For our upcoming trip both my parents qualify for DAS and were able to make some advance attraction reservations. However, the DAS reservations are only good for 6 people (DAS guest plus 5 guests) but there are a total of 7 of us.
I'm not optimistic that we'll be able to line up plans if one of us buys Genie+ that day. I wish they had the old FP system as it would have given us some idea if we could make it work.
Has anyone have any experience with this. Are they sticklers on the number or will they make exceptions for one more guest? Assuming so, do I go to a DAS desk for help or just ask at each attraction during the arrival window?

If both parents qualify then you get 6 for each. I just saw that. Otherwise GS will sometimes make an exception and sometimes not. When they do not, we swapped bands. Now sadly our 2nd group has a medical diagnosis that qualified him for DAS so we have 2 in our group to have it. So I get my immediate family and they get theirs. Advanced reservations cannot be easily modified but they should have each named guest that is allowed. If something is missing and only 1 parent has DAS when both qualify try again to see if they can fix it.

Thanks. My mom made reservations for 6 of us but when my stepdad tried to make his he could not get close to matching my mom’s reservations so we could all go at the same time. Seriously, the Nemo show at AK couldn’t fit one more person?!?
Can advance DAS reservations be modified online? The website doesn’t seem to let them. I’ll see if they can call again next week and start over.

As far as I know the advance reservations cannot be modified online. Honestly, half the time we don't use them because of the inflexible time window. Regular DAS you can change and adjust times according to the DAS holders needs.
As to additional guests past the 6, ymmv, but we have been able to add additional guests by going to guest services in the park and asking. They sometimes say that is at the discretion of the CM when we check in if they allow the additional person. Never had an issue though.

I am a little surprised they couldn't find more but they are pretty limited at times. We had decent luck overlapping ours.

I don't bother with pre-reservations because it is so limiting. I usually travel with a large family. 7-15 guests. No I do not try to get them all on a das but they take turns. If it is a show, then CMs at the gate will allow one or two extras to join you. It is entirely up to their discretion. I have some CMs who are very strict with the rules. I actually think they're newer and they're not really aware of how they can bend rules. Disney is very strict with its demotion system So there's new cast members are terrified of doing something wrong.. You just roll with the punches. You only have one extra person so I highly doubt you're going to have problems.
Remember with DAS you're booking a return time. That means you and your group can come back anytime after the stated wait time. I know the pre-ranged ones work a little differently and you actually have a time limit to use it. But regular GAS that you make in the park do not have that time limit. You can easily have your dad get a return time that allows you and him to go at the same time you made your mom's prescheduled DAS.
For example, if your mom and five of your family numbers are pre-scheduled for the 2:00 p.m. show, get to the park before noon and have your dad schedule a DAS for himself and one other. With the enough wait time you'll all be able to go into the 2:00 p.m. show.

How do the day-of DAS passes work? Are there a limited number per day? Are they available for any attraction that has a stand-by queue or are some excluded?
Also, are there special viewing areas for fireworks with DAS? Do we need to reserve that on the App day of or is there just an area to show up and show the DAS registration?

They're very much like the old digital FP that you would get. As soon as you tap into park, you select which ride you want. Select the guests involved and you'll get a return time. You can use these anytime after the time is up. VQ rides are done as usual (get your VQ at the appropriate time) but when you go to return when your BG is called, find CMs at the ride and swap to DAS so you can use ILL line. There are no DAS for fireworks unfortunately. But for ECV viewing. I cannot personally think of rides excluded from DAS. Even TTA can use it. First day you can open the MDE app and see all the wait times as such. I personally just look at the map and then select the ride I want.

Does it work like old FPs where you can get one every two hours or as soon as you use one?

As soon as I do my final tap in, I pick my next ride if I plan to do another.

If I have a advance DAS with a 2p return, would I be prevented from grabbing an in-park DAS reservation until after 2p? Assuming so, I think we will skip the advance DAS since it seems to be pretty limited.

You can select your first day of DAS as soon as you get in no matter what time (if any) you have an advance selection. No harm in doing advanced selections but they aren't needed either.

I feel your pain. We have 3 DAS members across four families in our large group. Coordinating the Advance DAS was basically impossible. We still booked some stuff to have in our back pocket but I do wish Disney made it easier when dealing with large groups that have 2 or more DAS customers.

Our travel party of late includes other DAS along with myself. Given that I frequently don't use the Advance DAS, since it is more restrictive with the time window, I may forego booking those. One nice thing about DAS is that if I need to leave a park, but hope to return that day if able, I can book something and it will still be available when I return.
