Run Disney just announced that they are starting the race 15min earlier and shortening the course to 7.5miles to try and have the course clear by 8:00am due to expected severe storms blowing in around 9:00 to 10:00am. The runners will not go up to MK so expect some cranky people in the park this weekend….

We had that happen the last time the Wine & Dine Half was at night. Delayed an hour by rain. Then shortened to a little more than 10K. We did get to hang out at Epcot until about 3AM, though. Weather is a bitch.
Cheers.

How about cancelling a race at the last minute, not just delaying or shortening it? That's what happened one year(2017, I think) during marathon weekend-the half marathon was cancelled at almost 10:00, 7 hours before projected race time, due to weather. Don't know if it's happened since.

As far as I know they will only cancel if they have active severe weather in the area. It may have been the 2017 race but I remember they canceled one year because we were getting pounded by lightening. Also there was one year they shorten the course during the race due to extreme heat, they had too many racers going down. Yesterday they further shorten the race towards the end in EPCOT and probably the last 10min of finishers went straight across the future world eliminating the world showcase loop. Canceling the entire race would have had the added issues that the Disneyland half is next weekend and a lot of people are doing both for the coast to coast medal (which the shortened half will count towards) . It would have also screwed up the dopey and goofy challenges. On Facebook several people found areas around Disney to get their mileage in after the race as well as some that ran parking lot laps prior to the run to get the mileage in while it wasn't raining.
Our daughter was a swimmer and the wife and I got into officiating to the point we ran several large multi-day regional and national level meets. It is never fun when you have to modify or cancel a meet and it is never unanimous. You just have to be sure you have the best interest and safety of the athletes and volunteers in mind when you make the decision.
