I'm so bummed. We were looking forward to going to Roundup Rodeo BBQ during our June trip (we've never been) but I just learned on DFB's weekly news video that they've changed the menu. They reduced the sides from 8 where you select 4 down to 5 that you just get as part of the meal. Unfortunately, the three sides they axed are the more interesting ones that we were all looking forward to the most (the loaded tots, fried pickles, and potato salad). The sides everyone gets now are plain tots, coleslaw, mac & cheese, BBQ beans, and grilled street corn...BORING w/ the corn being the only thing w/ some pizazz or creativity (and not a great option for me w/ my braces). Ugh. Looking at DFB's article w/ the original menu listing (https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/01/25/full-menu-announced-for-roundup-rodeo-bbq-in-disney-world/) and the current menu in MDE, it looks like Rex's Romaine and Kale Salad and the Campfire-roasted Vegetables have been taken off the menu as well. I'm guessing the family will still vote to go just for the experience but the trimming of the more unique sides (for a Disney restaurant) is definitely disappointing.

They reduced the sides from 8 where you select 4 I suppose it is much cheaper and faster to just automatically include the five basic (cheap) sides you mentioned. I wonder how much trouble they were having with people selecting four sides? Lots of people going "ummmm" and taking forever (not everyone picks it out ahead of time like me and you) and then there might have been mix-ups, and there might have been people saying "I didn't order this, I ordered THAT". Gotta dumb it down for the masses!

I'm bummed about this too. We had a res last month and decided to cancel due to park being very crowded and chose to go to Universal instead. We said we would go this summer. Not sure we want to go now...

Sad to hear this - I loved their fried pickles!

Likely the victims of food cost or prep/cook time.

Likely the victims of food cost or prep/cook time. The DFB story said they spoke to a cast member who said all the options, plus people trying different sides when they ordered more (didn't know you could pick different sides for refills rather than more of the 4 you chose), were putting a strain on the kitchen. Okay, I can see added effort/strain on the kitchen for fried pickles (which I'm sure are more expensive too) but I don't understand how loading up tots with some toppings vs. sending them out plain is much more of an effort; you still need to make the tots which is the bulk of the effort. And, potato salad isn't one of those things you make on demand so scooping some made in the morning or a day or days prior wouldn't be a huge effort. I'm more inclined to think it's a cost savings more than anything which is too bad.

That’s not the only change. They dropped the more interesting salad too. But you can ask for salmon, and they’ll bring as many portions as you like. The salmon was good.

I’m bummed as well. We decided to not go to Hollywood Studios on our last trip as Rockin Roller Coaster was closed for refurbishment, but were planning on going here on our next trip. Without the loaded tots, not sure I want to anymore.

I don't agree you have to dumb it down for the masses. Having choices made it interesting. We tried the pickles, and nobody liked them - which is fine, but the loaded tots and potato salad were good. Having choices increases repeatability. Disney is in a down spell right now-- rooms are 35% off and they're giving away free dining. So rather than bring the food down they should keep up with what sets their food apart-- being a step above and having choices you don't get at other parks. I might actually send an email about this cuz it's something I wouldn't want to become a trend. People pushed back on Ohana reductions and that led to good things. This restaurant won't have the same reach, but still.

We do not eat much in the parks but Rodeo's never been on the radar is I think it'd be packed with kids. While I kinda like kids, their parents are usually a PITA.
