Disney is full of themselves if they think the Cabins will sell at a reasonable pace, at that price and maintenance fees.
I think there will be an initial sales rush, because there are some Ft Wilderness junkies that want in. But I am predicting that sales will taper off to a drip and DVC will be forced to discount the price even more than the opening sales price.

Many have said that we should do a poll once we had all the details. I combined this thread with with choices for a poll and edited in the price point as well as the maintenance fees amount.
My answer is flat out no way on this. Seeing the maintenance fees just solidified it completely.

I can see the attraction of these for various types of guest. And the idea of the cabins appeals to me. But the realities mean it’s a definite no. Layout, no master bedroom, bathroom location, maintenance fees, lack of amenities, internal transport situation.
It does make me want to try the treehouses though…..

I can see the attraction of these for various types of guest. And the idea of the cabins appeals to me. But the realities mean it’s a definite no. Layout, no master bedroom, bathroom location, maintenance fees, lack of amenities, internal transport situation. It does make me want to try the treehouses though….. Who will buy at the Cabins.....
1. People who have nostalgic memories of staying at the campground. 2. People who have dogs and want to bring them to Disney World. 3. The uneducated of the DVC timeshare system. 4. Those families that embrace the camping lifestyle and want to continue that at Disney World.
5. People sucked in with the cabin can sleep 6 with low points.

6. People who are OK with studios and see these as a step up. Kinda like Endless Summer at Uni except with bunk beds in the bedroom. 7. People who really, really want to stay in cabins at the Fort over Christmas and Halloween. A subset of #4. With 100 points they’ll pay $1200+ a year in dues. I think that’s less than the current cash price for a week. So they might see it as being able to continue doing their favourite thing at their favourite time of year. So a subset of #3 whereby they forget about the up front cost on top of dues. A subset of #3. |

My very first stay at WDW was the campgrounds. I have a lot memories of the bus rides (not good) and of what it was like walking around the camp site. We were avid campers though so this was a neat addition for us (we drove from Ohio to FL with a camper no joke). I have fond memories of River Country as well. Fantastic memories of MK and Epcot prior to opening from the monorail. I have a lot of not so fond memories of the transportation. It stuck with me as a kid even. I enjoy visiting FW but no desire to stay there again. There will be people who adore FW from earlier stays years ago or those who love the culture of it all. Those with dogs are another real winner for those interested. There are going to be people who want to stay in the cabins due to low point costs and the ability to hold 6 legitimately. I am not sure many of those will buy in though... not quickly. But there will be some. I said earlier elsewhere that we had a lot of people interested in staying at the cabins. Seeing the cost to buy in and maint. fees really turned a lot of people off. The maintenance fees being the biggest killer of them all. I haven't seen one positive comment yet. Anectodal evidence but I like seeing different thoughts than this group too since that one is more diverse in ownership types. |

I think sales will be more for the young families who walk up to the DVC counter at the parks, look at the pictures, have never camped before but have seen Subaru and LL Bean and Chaco commercials on tv, and they will think "We can take the kids and the dog camping!"

Thank you for talking me down off the ledge. I like these cabins. I like Ft. Wilderness. Don't mind that there is no washer and dryer. 15 points for a room in Sept. when my Grandson is tracked out of school makes for an easy get-a-way. I was also seeing this as an opportunity to purchase a direct contract and add the DIL's name rather than just doing a re title on one of my contracts. But, truth of the matter is I have too many points for my small family and do not need any more maintenance fees. As it is, I don't think my son will keep all the contracts I already have right now.
Guess I will wait and see how hard it is to book one of these and also see if they drop the price or offer incentives that make for an offer I just can't refuse.
