We don't do Valentine's day. Mostly because honestly we are just about celebrated out with birthdays that start end of November and go all the way through the end of February (mine was the 4th). We really don't need an excuse for one more day of extra stuff and I'm usually looking forward to dropping any extra holiday weight that I've gained at this point. I'm not a card person much either. We don't either as we realize that it is just a manufactured holiday with the intent to sell things and make those who don't have someone special feel bad. Not something we need to recognize.
In fact, that's simply the day we fly home from our current trip.
Cheers.

After years of intermittent hip pain and recently a small fracture, I'm having hip replacement surgery tomorrow. I hope to be walking well soon, especially since we have a WDW trip the end of May, and DS is getting married in July.

A woman on my ten pin bowling team had a hip replacement just before Christmas. Five weeks later she was back bowling!

I feel for the friend born on Feb 14. A friend's son was born just before Christmas, which makes that a juggling act every year.
DD skipped homeschool on Monday as her new bedroom furniture arrived. She and DH put it together, which perhaps was simply a different set of lessons. Today, she's focused and determined to do two days worth of work in one. The longer we homeschool, the more the flexibility works well for the whole family. Not a bad thing.

Been up since 5 doing ticket stuff. Glad I double checked as my partner did make an error again this year and I caught it just as the tickets opened at 6. I'm not sure Valentine's is that bad for a kid. Candy and more stuff lol. My kid's birthday falls at closest one day after Thanksgiving. A buddy has it on TG every few years (born day before). That one is tough as so many people are often busy with family. We also had to fight "the game' which is always the Sat after TG. One year people were totally ignoring him and made him wait to open presents until the game was over. He was like 8 and it went into overtime. We never did it on a Saturday like that again. Then people complained if we did it the day after TG. No winning. By the time my birthday comes I am tired of food I admit. But probably easier than some other birthdays. After years of intermittent hip pain and recently a small fracture, I'm having hip replacement surgery tomorrow. I hope to be walking well soon, especially since we have a WDW trip the end of May, and DS is getting married in July. Best wishes!!!

I'm not sure Valentine's is that bad for a kid. Candy and more stuff lol. At least from my point of view as a school bus driver, kids were pretty excited every Valentine's day when they would board the bus (going home) with a shoebox full of candy. Not a replacement for Halloween, no, but it's almost like "Halloween #2"

Kids are always pumped for both even if they don't really celebrate. Any excuse for a party is good lol

Wife got me this! She has sadly never seen the "real" Figment's Ride but I told her that reading this "Little Golden Book" was almost like going on the ride.

I still have my very first Valentines card I ever got, aged 6. I was at an American elementary & middle school at the time; out of a class of 9 there were 7 nationalities! Hallowe'en and Valentines Day were huge events there but never really featured back in the U.K. until I was in my teens.

Happy Valentine's Day to all. I am a grinch - to me half of the holidays are all a money making day lol I had to convince my husband years ago to stop buying flowers and chocolates. We don't exchange gifts. We get what we want, when we want. I don't like to go out to eat on "the actual day" Mother's Day/Father's Day/Valentine's Day. Busy/add a page to the menu for the day with raised prices. We used to go when the parents were alive to take them out. We met friends for breakfast recently on a Monday. We did not see the usual menu. My friend and I were a little perplexed (is that the word) and when the waiter came around heard us talking, he said, It is Martin Luther King Day.....okay. We do surprise each other here and there with little things or something really unexpected. Now it's all about the grandchildren. We give cards ($$/Valentine's Day, Easter, Halloween, Birthdays & Christmas) to each grandchild and buy something small to go with it - chocolate, favorite cookies, small game gift card/toy. Not a big deal for us but happy for all that celebrate

Very well said. Manufactured holidays have little meaning to us. There are days that are special to us that matter. Hallmark's sell-a-card holiday is not one of them.
Signed,
a fellow Valentine's Day Grinch...
Cheers.
