This has me wondering what to do with buying a resale contract. I'm definitely decided on getting points for 2 bedrooms for some of our future PVB stays. I found a fully loaded contract that I do think is a bit high but if I rented some of the points it would be a good deal. But I don't want to be stuck with points and money taken out of savings I wouldn't replenish nearly immediately.

I've noticed that for a while. I've had rentals that did not rent in the last 6 months. I even had a Value Studio at AKV over Halloween that I had originally booked for my niece's wedding that was postponed. I was shocked that it did not rent. I had banked points in it which I turned into a BWV standard view studio in May which did rent. *whew* I've noticed that if it doesn't rent RIGHT AWAY, it won't rent at all.

I am having a completely different experience, renting at $24 per point (PVB, typically between 7-11 months) with no issues, and was actually wondering if I should have priced higher given the new tower will likely make the demand for PVB priority even greater. I have rented more than I initially planned to part with for this year, but with trips to South America and Sicily on the horizon, I figured I wouldn't miss Disney that much!

I have a renter that has been contacting me for 3 years now. This year I raised my point price from 15 to 18 because I'll have to borrow the points for her stay. DH said I should've raised them to 20 but that seemed kind of a big jump. She likes SSR preferred so her per night price is $248/n and DH thinks it should be higher. IDK. Anyway, for us renting isn't a real issue but then we don't actually try.

Out of curiosity, I checked two well-known 3rd party rental sites and found that one charges renters $25 per point, and another charges renters $27 per point for custom reservations at PVB. Owners are being paid up to $21 for those points, less any processing fees, whatever those are. Other resorts are priced at $28 per point for renters, paying up to $22 per point to owners.

I think part of the problem is that rental prices have risen substantially, sometimes to the point of being more expensive than cash(with disounts). For the most part

With the new Poly tower coming onboard, this will be a Poly owners rental dream!

With the new Poly tower coming onboard, this will be a Poly owners rental dream! This is my wonder/worry. I'm really close to pulling the trigger on an offer for a fully loaded with 2023 banked to 2024 points. I have little/no need but if I could rent them all for $20 or so a point I'd come out ahead on the contract. But it's a few thousand to gamble with.

And at the same time BLT isn't a premium resort any more. I wonder why that is?
Changes to Top of the World Lounge? Points? MK falling out of favor?
We recently stayed there in March and really enjoyed our stay. In fact, I had no complaints at all.

How do people know what is a premium resort - is it based on renter demand?

That's the question I'd ask. What makes a premium hotel at Disney?
I mentioned elsewhere recently that we were trying to decide where to stay this summer about 5 months ago. We wanted a good location, a good community hall, and good dining options either at the resort or very nearby. Every time we mentioned one of these things, I would name resorts and always leave out BLT. Totally on accident too. BLT is just fine and having that extra bathroom in the one bedrooms and above is great. But none of us were feeling it and we kept forgetting it. They're really is nothing wrong with BLT. The location is great. But why did we not feel it was worth the points to stay there? Why is it at this point we feel that this is not a premium Resort anymore? We have enjoyed our stays there, so nothing really negative, but something has always been missing when we are staying there and I can't figure out exactly why outside of how concrete the grounds are.

One thing that you alluded to that I want to expand upon.
The problem with BLT starts from the beginning.....during design and construction. Originally, BLT was suppose to be a fully independent resort. I saw the plans and what was originally going to be built. But somewhere along the way, Disney decided to strip BLT of independence and make it use Contemporary's Back of house and amenities. So Disney removed all those things that would have given BLT its heart, soul and personality. Check-in was at Contemporary, Bell Service was Contemporary, all food options are at Contemporary, gym.....you get the point. BLT owners complained enough that eventually Disney added the check-in counter at BLT, allowed the buses to drop off guests. But the damage was done and BLT never got that "home" feeling.
VGF gets that same bad rap from not being a truly independent resort.

I am curious if they'll get it right with the PVB tower... wondering about bus transportation there myself For us with BLT it's a bit more than what you said as well but I cannot hint on exactly why it's forgotten. First time for us, it all was done at Contemporary. Next time was at BLT. Given how the resort is, I am glad they did. VGF transportation and food is a sore spot with me. More than PVB and such.

Interesting history there. What was in the lobby space before it had a check-in and bell desk? I think of BLT as its own resort. Maybe because the Contemporary is so different, and BLT has its own place in the skyline. I don't feel I'm staying at the Contemporary when I stay at BLT (and I stay at both). Different from VGF, BCV, or BRV which I think of as a bolt-on to a bigger resort. They're small buildings tucked behind the main building and have no identity of their own.
