Today I was emailed to ask if I would participate in a survey about my DVC membership. The questions were quite interesting. Some examples of the questions were;
1. What reason caused you to sell your membership?
2. Do you currently own DVC points after the sale of your most recent DVC? ( Found that odd, surely they know).
3. Did you sell through a broker or DVC? Which broker? Why did you choose them? How was your experience selling through them?
4. Did you make a profit when you sold your DVC points?
5. What would make you purchase more DVC points? Will you purchase direct or resale? What resort are you most likely to purchase?
6. How often have you rented points to family? How often have you rented to non family members? Why did you rent your points ( choices like pay off dues, had banked points, etc).
7. How often have you used your DVC membership? Will you use your membership in the next 3-5 years?
There were other questions but these really stand out. Has anyone else gotten this survey?

I have not gotten this survey, but I have not sold points. Maybe they are trying to figure out why people leave DVC?

NO, but I find the questions regarding renting suspicious.

Yes I have sold many contracts since 2007. Every purchase you make is recorded with Disney, and that information is still retained even when you sell.
What I also find interesting is they wanted to know if I made a profit when I sold my points, and the degree of that profit. Is Disney maybe rethinking their position when is comes to resales, like getting into that business to compete with the third party brokers?
I have had as many as 450 points over this 17 year span, and am down to a mere 118 pt FW. They are watching who is selling and buying.

Wonder if DVC is considering developing their own point rental service and/or resale brokerage?

I find it interesting DVC reached out to you. Over the years I have seen many posters disappear. I wonder if they all sold their DVC. We often talk about selling part of our DVC but so far we've always managed to use - over use - every point. LOL

LOL We know there are several who did sell their points and move on (CarolinaYankee and Kickapoo come to mind). 40-50 years is a long time to go to the same place, let alone multiple times a year as many of us do. Familiarity breeds contempt. When you go as much as we do, you tend to notice all the things that have changed. We've been members for only 12 years and still love it. But how will I feel another 10 years down the line? Is DVC planning on competing in the resale/rental world? Who knows?

But how will I feel another 10 years down the line? We bought in 2008, so 16 years in. We have another 18 years until 2042. Each time I go back and walk out onto the Boardwalk, I remember why we have the points. Not everything about the trip is exciting each time, to be sure. But we really do enjoy it each and every time.
But I can also see why that might not be the case for some.
Cheers.

I have sold 5 out of 6 resorts that we owned. Four for a profit, one broke even. All of them were sold for different reasons. The dynamic has now changed again where it may just prohibit any further purchases. Some of that dynamic is blamed on Disney, some with changes in my personal life. If it weren’t for the new Poly tower, the decision would be a no to further purchases. Now there is a big wrench in this decision making.

This is us when we go to OKW. We only go once per year, but for a long trip, so we always look forward to it. It's been ten years for us. 2042 means only 16-18 more trips!
