had several warnings and a 2 week ban. I tow the line there now, and frankly could give a sh$t if they like my posts or not. Circling back to the "Silently correctly your grammar" thread, I'd like to point out that I believe it's 'toe the line', not 'tow the line' hee hee hee

I was not ever warned once and I was banned - simply for being a member somewhere else. Part of why I am not thrilled with them is power hungry crud. But really watching them screw people irked me most. I won't prohibit people talking about them here or linking to them there, I just have a horrible opinion of the owner and some of the WM there. Wow, I had always wondered why some many people seem to have a disdain for Disboards, and after reading thru this thread, I finally understand. Didn't realize that much banning was happening for being yourself there (and not limited to just scammers). It does seem ridiculous to me, but their boards, their rules or whatever interpretation that they want to apply. I guess I been safe since I try never to get into the politics of anything or argue with anybody, if I disagree, I simply just don't comment to avoid conflict, it just not worth it. Everybody is allow to have their own thoughts and opinions and express whatever they desire. I am glad to have this board, MagicOwners, where people are free to express their opinions, no matter how much we may disagree for a lively discussion to put it mildly. Back on topic, while I have what I want to see for a RTB forum, I will refrain from offering my suggestions, wants, etc.. simply because of adding work for the admins/moderaters/etc. To me, let them decide whether they decide to host a RTB forum, and how it's done, and be happy with whatever comes out of it. I am just happy that there is consideration to have one, and if it didn't happen, that's alright too. Thanks All. This is my first post to MagicOwners, didn't even know when MouseOwners was finally taken down. I took a break for about 3+ months on all the forums, but just now reading again, and so much changed already, and glad MagicOwners is in full swing. Great3

Great3 I'm totally open to suggestions and thoughts. Just not pay to play. Glad you found your way here though. I do understand for DISBoards their rules, their place. I just told them to shove it when they banned for being a member of a different forum. They were going to reinstate me and a few others, but me and a few friends told them to stuff it effectively. Just was the tip of the iceberg. Just never bring up the mugs... you'll be fine Lessons learned is that most adults play well with little watch. Some are not great but most are. Spammers are to be dealt with and the rest? Have fun. Our FB group shows that. Very small percentage of jerks. We're pretty hands off though.

I am proud to say I have never made one post on DisBoards nor have I intentionally visited the site unless I was doing a search and the link took me there. I quickly went and took a shower to get clean. OK here's my deal - this is not meant to replace or compete any other business. This is meant to be something easy to build, super easy to run and if it works for someone then great. And if it doesn't then there are other places folks can go. So it won't work for all scenarios, it won't work for all people and that's fine to me. It's not like I'll profit from it. And if Elaine wants to build something on her own, then I'm all for her or anyone doing whatever they want Power to the people and all that. I agree, easy is best. I think yours works great for many and is easy for some. I've just been fielding for others requests lately. All said, if people want super strict rules, I'm not for that. If we can run it on FB and people don't get on us for it, then I can see it working here. Just not sure how yet. I'm finally in a real lull so can ponder and research. If this was Disboards, most of us would have been banned, including our moderators, for posting. I do not post on Disboards as I know how easy it is to get suspended or banned if you say something that the moderators disagree with. The normal level of snarkiness and going off topic that MouseOwners and MagicOwners has been know for seems to be totally unacceptable on Disboards as well as Disboards not being open to opinions that do not match "management". Yeah, I'm too sarcastic of a twit for that kind of crap. I absolutely followed the rules when I was a member there and had fun but it wasn't my favorite. I knew too many nice mods and WMs though. Banning here would have to be a spammer or a total troll. had several warnings and a 2 week ban. I tow the line there now, and frankly could give a sh$t if they like my posts or not. I stay just active enough to stay rental board eligible (yes you have to have so many posts within a 3 month timeframe to stay “ free” or grandfathered.) I was not ever warned once and I was banned - simply for being a member somewhere else. Part of why I am not thrilled with them is power hungry crud. I quickly went and took a shower to get clean. I end up reading thing there once in a while, simply because googling a question, sometimes their sheer numbers mean the specific question is there. But that is rare, I always feel free to use the stupid questions thread here because that is the best thread ever that happened to threads. But sometimes I will type something very specific, like if I wanted to know if the Tampa airport has the quick kiosk thing for Budget Rental, very specific, but I will type something like that into google instead of searching here because I figure that on those other boards are many thousands of people and surely that information is there somewhere.

Agree! The new RTB should be easy for admin, easy for users, and with explicit notations that the transaction and responsibility for all aspects of a deal are completely left for the buyer / seller to manage; caveat emptor. I'm hoping this doesn't become too much of a burden for you admins. It was a nice perk of being a MO; I've met some great renters who've become friends and I have yearly repeat renters from the old RTB.

I think that discussion of renting needs to be a higher level discussion and thought for you (Helena) and the other administrators. Those of us who spent a while on MouseOwners know that the RTB aspects were among the biggest headaches of Kim, Dirk, etc. On this board, one item I notice is that the individuals who tend to ask is there a location on MagicOwners about renting points have single digit post counts. (Not just in this thread but also other threads on MagicOwners.) You (Helena) will need to decide if all the associated hassles of a RTB type section is worth it. Of course, sometimes the RTB forum was the site of "entertainment" for those of us watching Kim going "full Kim" in some threads that I wish had been archived. Well he is one of the ones too. This isn't really just me doing much, but I do think it should be open for discussion. On our big old FB group I help run, we just say we are not responsible for any rental issues. Don't come to us. Leave us alone. We do make sure those on the group are actual DVC owners with a quick search on the OC Comptroller. That's it. If you take the risk to rent, that's on you. If you need points and ask and others offer and things go south, that's on you. I am not involved outside of regular duties and I have no issues doing that here. I'm just not comfortable with info on google sheets personally. That is me. I'd use a broker first. I am looking at other sites to see how they do it though. I know we said we would do a RTB here and I'm one who is on my word. So I'm willing to do some things, but not everything. I want to make it easy for all. Yeah I think the problems come when it becomes too much work for moderators/administrators. Just put a heavy duty disclaimer at the top of the page that basically says it’s completely on you and not on us. Between my decade plus of ownership with both DVC and Marriott I’ve probably done close to 100 transactions with very few hiccups.

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) - Members Only I will say I don't tolerate some crap though, but overall I leave people alone. The owner of the group is the same way. Agree! That is the direction I am leaning. I might consider verifying with OCComptroller when selling but unsure. I might also make it open after "registering" for it. That's as far as I would want to go.

Personally, I’d prefer more of a RTB than the google doc, but I’m just a member here, so whatever you do is up to you all. As others said, it’s keeping the google doc updated that is my issue, took me months to get back in to update my info. Then realized I’m not getting any inquiries because it links to my MO PMs. I won’t put my personal email out there for anyone to see.
Also, I have trouble finding the doc unless it’s linked in here. I’m not all that user friendly with google docs. In fact I’m looking for it now and can’t find it LOL.

I have now struck out with everyone on the Doc I have emailed. Most of them dint realise they had not updated it.
Maybe it's because being from the UK and how weak the pound is I have only been concentrating on lower value points sellers.

Maybe it's because being from the UK and how weak the pound is I have only been concentrating on lower value points sellers. Unfortunately I think this is going to be a problem between owners and renters from here on. Our dues have gone up considerably. I realize the other day that I was renting to a friend at a rate that only gave me about a 50 cents clearance of my dues. That's just too low for the work involved. I think the days of $10 per point are long gone. And that's going to be an issue for everyone. I do empathize with the renter who's trying to minimize expenses as much as possible. Disney is a very expensive vacation these days. And I have relatives who are going to have to rent themselves next year. So I'm pricing it for them. There is a certain amount of sticker shock. My problem is between my family and I, we're using every single point we have. I just don't have a buffer anymore for friends or family. Or rentals. Which is not a really bad thing because it means we all get to enjoy Disney a lot. Good luck in your search!

I post on disboards but not usually in the DVC section. I stick to the theme parks and strategies and the disabilities forum. Last time I was over at the DVC section I got it demerit for something. Ignored it. I've yet to be banned. Maybe if they realize I do all my blogging here instead of there they might get snippy. I've always preferred the crowd over here better. More DVC centric. More tolerant and kinder. I have enough drama in my real life. I don't need it online too. I guess that's why everything I read and write online I take with a huge grain of salt.

(when I say cheap now I mean $14+) When the pound was worth something. There would have been absolute bargains at Disney. But during this time Disney UK would offer dinning plan for free and other discounts. So I would guess not many UK folk would have even looked for DVC. Disney from UK is all set up for maximise time onsite time and spend. For example in the UK can only buy a 7 day or 14 day ticket. 14 days are the same price. They come with park hopping and memory maker as standard and include all parks and water parks. Fingers crossed for me something gives. I got lucky last year with rental costs. So hopefully I find some luck again !
