Rode TBA the other day and here are my thoughts;
Quick Summary - If you liked Splash Mountain you will more than likely like TBA. Same ride track, different critters.
To be fair I never really liked Splash Mountain or I should say I don't like any ride that dumps a bucket worth of water on you so you get to walk around in the Florida heat and humidy and never dry out. It feels great at the moment but the next two or three hours not so much. Avoiding the politics I think updating a ride like this is a good move from a sales and marketing point of view. This lets them push another Princess and merch. The ride has two themes, one being food and the other being Jazz both of which they can easily market through out the park(s). It doesn't look like they are going to open a Tiana theme restaurant in the Magic Kingdom (they are at Disneyland and I heard a rumor that one is going to one of the resorts at WDW) I would be shocked if there is not a beignet cart at the end of the ride.
The ride is very obviosly still in beta test, we say some issues with the ride cars vehicles and at least one of the critters was not working. I also thought the music and lighting could be tweaked a bit. But overall it was a fun experience and for once I will say that Disney did an excellent job managing the prevue crowd. The wait for us was about 15min to get the wristbands that were required and then about 45min in the actual line. The wait after going under the train bridge (the start of the main question) was about 30min, with the wait after the G+ join in point being about 10min. The queue was also re-themed which was cute but lacked any interaction points or secondary stories being told and it is still outside so be prepared for heat and weather (the ride goes down in really bad weather). They have put up some fans but not enough, currently they brought in some portable cooling units so they realize there is an issue and hopefully will add more cooling solutions. As to not spoil the ride (I know it is all over the internet) I won't talk about specific scenes in the ride, but there is one Coll scene towards the end. Overall Don't expect any big changes as far as the ride goes, it is the same track they used before, I like the chang in theming and all of the issues I saw should be easily fixable and probably will be by the time the ride opens later this month.
Now to go along with this why not update Jelly Rolls at BWV in to a night club using theming from the movie Soul? The more Jazz that gets added to the parks the better!

That's a great idea! Retheming Jelly Rolls to Soul could be so much fun. We've been to the piano bar a few times over the years. I've never seen it busy. Maybe just luck of the draw, but I also don't recall any trip reports highlighting it or mentioning a crowd there.
Tiana seems to fit Magic Kingdom. I hope the rethemed Splash Mountain is a success. Too bad there is not a plan for a restaurant named Tianna's Palace in MK. Would that have counted as a technical 4th castle for the park???

Are you saying that the new formulation has changed things so that they don't dump the water on you as the log comes down the chute? That could be a game changer. Cheers.

I’ve always thought of this as just a re-theme of exactly the same ride. Your comment about the water reminded me of something I read recently, where I think Tokyo (but maybe Shanghai) are advertising special ride experiences where they literally will drench you with water as you go over the drop! They’re only turning it on at certain times but it sounds fun to me - weather permitting. This as someone who always get drenched on Kali and s similar Legoland ride Viking River Splash. 😂

I'm hoping for a better sound system. If I didn't know the story already I would've never heard anything enough to under stand what was going on. I feel the same on Frozen.

Nope, you still get the bucket dumped on you. Never saw the plus of getting water of unknown quality dumped on you. To be fair we had a couple of heavy weights in the front (including me), if you’re in a lighter vehicle or towards the back your mileage may vary.

I was hoping that they might have changed this part. We will likely need to ride this to see the new theming, but it may well be a one-and-done for this reason.
Cheers.

I will have to rely on videos as I despise water rides. Of course did them with the kids when they were little, but now I don't have to!! For some reason I always got that "splash" full on in the face...under the sunglasses....yuck.

You can put me in the "I hate water rides" group; the only time I rode Splash as a grown-up was when wife and I were there and it was raining cats and dogs so we had our ponchos on, Splash was a walk-on and we said "might as well, we are already soaked".
Other than that, I DO like the ride (or did, I should say). Rode it many many times as a kid with my sister, who always managed to get more soaked than me. Except for those rapids rides, I always got stuck going under that huge waterfall for some reason.
Heck, I get splashed in Pirates when a cannonball goes off next to me and I don't really like it!

Thanks for the report!! I am avoiding all the POV videos on youtube, spoilers, and all of that, and I was getting kind of worried, they'd changed the basic set up of the ride, like took out a drop or something. Glad it's basically the same ride flow. I'm looking very, very forward to riding in October. Splash and HM were my favorite rides at MK, and looked forward to Splash getting this Tiana makeover, but keeping the drops mixed up with animatronics, etc.

Thanks for the review.
As expected, I’m looking forward to the animatronics, but have zero desire to get wet.
Oh well. I’ll try it at least once for sure.

Worst change ever, though I still want the redhead (or brunette, or blonde…) as well.

Remember when that gal was popping in and out of the barrel and that pirate was holding some of her clothing? Now it's Jack Sparrow while the pirate mumbles something about "this here map" or was it the key.

This ride will be down a lot too which is a time killer. I rode Splash twice. The only thing is that now it will have a VQ which might be helpful, but it doesn't change the broken down factor which still destroys plans.

I really enjoyed splash - but I can no longer due any roller coaster type rides - so I am watching this new one via the youtube videos. My only complaint is I feel like before the drop they should have had a scene with the "friends on the other side" song
