I'm OK with manual steering. I still don't trust these self-driving cars completely. Rather do it myself I read something a few years back that made me think about it differently. Now every time I see bad drivers around me (which, as we all know, is far too often) I think, "Those self driving cars can't get here fast enough." My wife said she liked driving, though, and I said no you don't, you like being in control of your vehicle and using it to go where you want to. If you could get in and say, "Car, take me to Target" and you could read a magazine or watch tv or watch out the window... She had to agree with that.

So, just a thread about antiquated methods of doing things that have been supplanted with superior technology. All on topic Good point, good point.

This is the wave of the future. They're just not here yet. Living in the heart of all of this with Cruise and Waymo (and having two former members of my team who went, one each, to these companies), this is something I follow closely. I've been around enough of these vehicles on the street to know that they're generally very good...and better than human drivers. But there are still enough glitches to give me pause.
But, yes, in general these are superior in performance to humans. Just like a number of other things that automation can do.
Cheers.

I'm hoping to be able to figure out the advance process to select LL. Hoping the process isn't blind spending. If I am spending $21/pp for FOP I'd like to know before I make the payment. Intuitive abilities seems to be degrading for this window cranker.

A conversation about Genie Plus has turned into "We used to have to crank our windows up and down." lol A friend of mine was saying she actually had crank windows in the backseat of her new Fiat (maybe 10 years old now). I was a big surprised. But they also haven't had an automatic as long as she's lived where she does which is closing in on 30 years now. Coming to visit her family in the states is interesting as our EV numbers are obviously pretty high. They have nearly zero charging stations. I think my state has more charging stations than her entire country.

Yeah, charging stations matter. California is lousy with them (and Teslas). I charge at home, but I see them very often on the road.
Cheers.

We've got them at some grocery stores, there's a gas station that has a couple charging stations in the parking lot, but I haven't seen an "electric gas station" around here, if that's even a thing. If I had an EV, it would be charging at home, that's for sure.
Trying to think of what cars I have with crank windows. My 91 Honda is crank but my 98 Honda is power. I have a 2002 work van and it's crank. I have a 1976 van that's obviously crank and you have to crank it A LOT to make that happen.

How in the heck did this discussion go from Genie+ Becoming Lightning Lane Multi Pass to discussing cars with no power steering or no AC or driving with a stick shift? What does all that have to do with a Lightning Lane Multi Pass? Have we lost our minds or are we just trying to fill the air with garbage?

Not the most kind thing to say to everyone.

My thoughts after using the new system in Epcot, DHS and MK on 8/2-8/4.
We are not "stay in the park all day" people. Our usual plans are rope drop, rides until lunch (sometimes in the park, sometimes out), maybe a ride or two after lunch, then back to the resort by 1:30-2 for pool and/or chill time.
The system works better for all day park people than it did for us. After using our first LL, we had difficulty finding another LL that we could use before it was time to leave the park.
The system forces some amount of criss-crossing the parks, especially when you are using VQ for Tron or Guardians. In MK, we had boarding group 6 for Tron, so immediately after rope dropping Jungle Cruise, we had to go to Tron, then back to HM for our first LL. We didn't get to ride BTMR, as it's usually our second ride, after JC, and by the time we got back to the Frontierland/Liberty Square side of MK, the BTMR wait time was longer than we wanted to wait.
We had a 12:15 Kona lunch reservation; from 8:30 (early entry) to 11:45 we did Buzz, JC, Tron (VQ), HM (LL), Tiana (LL), WDW railroad, Mermaid (LL), Buzz (LL).
Epcot--But for getting a LL for Ratatouille (we call it the Rat Ride) and a shorter SE wait time, we didn't need LL. We did Soarin', LwtL, Nemo (LL--not needed), GotG (ILL), SE (LL--cut wait form 20 min to zero), Soarin' (LL), lunch at Via Napoli, Rat (LL).
DHS--early entry--ToT, MMRR, TSM, MFSR, Ronto Roaster quick breakfast, TSM (LL and my all time high score), 11 AM lunch at HBD Lounge, ToT (LL). We had a LL for Slinky but I got the Slinky and ToT return times reversed, so we missed Slinky and couldn't modify the time for later since Slinky was "sold out." We were able to get some LL's for Epcot rides for after dinner, but opted to not go to Epcot after dinner.
For our next trip, I'll be taking a hard look at how we do the parks in the morning then decide if we want to pay for the LL's. I do like the convenience of choosing the ILL return time for Guardians, because in our experience, the VQ line can get really long, and the ILL line has always been shorter.
We were not planning to use the system for AK, and we ended up getting rained out on our AK day due to Debby on 8/5.

Thanks for posting your experience. Seems DD is coming so I need to learn this mostly to train her dad. Could be interesting on all fronts! She says she doesn't care except for GotG but I'm not buying it!

Nor can I handle manual steering. LOL I'm OK with manual steering. I still don't trust these self-driving cars completely. Rather do it myself
Cheers.
I thnik that's called "armstrong" steering.

Well, at this point I think the latest change wont help the complaining. It wont be long until all the popular rides will be pay to ride.
Something like $8 to get access to the fast pass system. You can use it for small world or a few other complimentary ones.
Then it becomes ala carte add ons...
ya want peter pan.. $5 Space mountain $8 Thunder mountain $4
Surge pricing of course.
