I have been away from the site a few days and surprised to see no posts about the new/old FP system with the fee...! Anyone try this or know how it is going? I peeked in the other day and some rides had no open times for the rest of the day when it was pretty early so concerned about that...yikes.....

There have been lots of posts about the “old” system called Genie+ (G+) and individual lightning lane (ILL). You probably need to search these terms as FP was the old, old, old system and FP+ was the old, old system. G+ and ILL had been in place for the past 3 years and both had a fee.
It just changed to lightning lane multi pass and lightning lane single pass. It is pretty much identical to G+ and ILL except that you can book 3 rides (there are tiers) in advance. There is a fairly long thread on this. Again, you probably won’t find it searching FP.

Except that now you can book another as soon as you use one-you don't have to use all 3 before you can book any more. At least I THINK that's the way it is.

I'm completely tuned out on this - simply don't care. I'm sure it's a great thing for some families, but I've no interest in paying more for a shorter line. Once this was an upcharge item, I stopped paying attention. I just go on less crowded mornings / nights and do the rides I want when the waits are short.

Although we did have success (finally) with genie plus on our last trip when my son's friend came with us. We covered three parks in one day (I wanted to do four but I got outvoted) Purchased genie plus for the day and made it work. I am not happy that what used to be free is now a charge, and its per person instead of by the room. oh well.

The upcharges + frequent changes to operating systems aimed to "improving our experience" just doesn't cut it.

I'm in favor of charging for this (and it was inevitable). This way it will be for people that want it and are willing to pay rather than anyone with a pulse. We'll likely not to it much, if at all. But it's nice to have the option with less competition it we want.
Cheers.
