Funny you mentioned "back when appliances lasted". Our fridge is humming away next to me, it was from circa 1991. That's a pretty good run. But my mom is from a different era - the era of taking appliances with you when you moved. She recently had to replace her fridge but she said "We took this fridge with us when we moved to Easton (maybe like 1970?) then we took it with us when we moved here in 74" so that thing was from the 60's at least and was still going until maybe five years ago - and the only thing really wrong was the fan inside would sometimes not turn on, and the repairman said he couldn't get the part anymore. If my dad had still been around I bet he would have found a motor that fit. She also finally replaced the original furnace from their house - from 1959. It was so old it said "Chrysler" on the front.

I also had a horrible experience with a Samsung fridge and its ice maker. Thanks to a Sears extended warranty though, after about 5-6 visits, it finally qualified under their "lemon" clause and they covered the replacement for a completely new fridge. I tried an LG this time and it's working pretty well so far...except...it has TWO ice makers though, and the superfluous ice-ball (craft ice) one needed to be replaced (under warranty) once already. If it dies entirely I won't be too mad as long as the in-door ice maker continues to work properly. Still, it's a perfect example of the modern trend of adding overly complex, fragile, and unneeded components to modern appliances resulting in drastically shortened life-spans.

DH and eldest had birthdays Sunday. I agreed to babysit so the eldest could go out with the hubs and our youngest, plus 1. The 4y was on a tear and our house is NO LONGER child-proof. After they left I wanted to take a trashcan and throw every chachki out but I was exhausted. Babysit as normal today at their house, which is SO much better. Phew. Only have to do this for another year. LOL

My dad has a mustard yellow fridge that works great. He doesn't run it all the time (no need with just him) but it still goes for holidays and beer and such.
Had a busy week this week. Eagle project was built and finished on Sunday, touched up on Monday and delivered Tuesday. Wednesday we had his 3rd in car for driver's ed and errands to run. First day of school for my kid today. Tomorrow is the first home game. Gone from sleeping in to 6-7am report times thanks to marching band. I'll be wiped come Saturday LOL

I didn’t think you were in the south or Midwest, that’s early for a lot of areas to start school. sounds exhausting, caffeine up.

Though in the farm town in Ohio I grew up in, school was only Labor Day until Memorial Day. A few days off here or there but not real spring or weeks long winter breaks. Kids were needed for farming. Then we moved to the suburbs of Cbus and had 2+ week long winter and added in spring breaks. Just glad we aren't like Arizona that does end of July Eagle Scout project for my son: built two 8 foot long movable storage shelves that are about 4.5 feet high and 2.5 feet wide. He's finishing up his Eagle requirements now and should be an official Eagle Scout in maybe 3 weeks we hope.

It's quite an accomplishment, Hoping he is able to finish.

Thank you all! My brother and husband are both Eagle Scouts as well. My kid is only 15 and given some of the slow downs during covid, I'm really impressed he got this far this fast. We have had a lot of almost 18 year old kids getting it since covid - and apparently, the previous Scoutmaster wasn't great at all and tried to restrict kids (not giving out permission to do merit badges - happened once to my kid). So this will be nice to have him as Eagle and still a couple of years just to have fun with Scouts as he finishes.
We have the Scoutmaster conference scheduled for Sunday. Then the board of review for it to be official after the last letter comes in (hopefully next week).

Of course I'm quite pleased with myself when I can put together whatever I buy from Amazon or IKEA... Best wishes that the remainder of the process goes as smoothly as possible.
