Reedy Creek Bill Passes House and Senate

this is the thing that might make me sell my points

I feel that a political takeover of RC is likely to result in reduced services and less capital investment that takes longer to deliver. This feels like something that will long term undermine the parks.

Good on Disney for standing their ground on this. Of course, meaningful actions often have consequences. We’ll see how real these actually become.

I would not expect Disney to respond until or unless they have a legal recourse. No point. And rattling political opponents is never a good idea.

Here are two interesting (at least to me) examples of the 4,761 lines of the bill over 191 pages. I believe that the first will catch the attention of environmentalists, if no one else.

"3129 REVIEW AND EVALUATION OF EXISTING RESOLUTIONS, CODES,
3130 AND REGULATIONS.—On or before July 1, 2026, the district must
3131 undertake a comprehensive review and evaluation of its
3132 comprehensive plan, zoning regulations, land development
3133 regulations, environmental protection regulations, building and
3134 safety codes and regulations, platting and subdivision
3135 regulations, and fire prevention regulations and adopt revisions
3136 to such as the district determines are necessary for health,
3137 safety, and welfare and for consistency with this act."


The second may catch the attention of some county officials;

"4143 (14) Orange and Osceola Counties, the municipalities, each
4144 school district, and any other political subdivision wholly or
4145 partly within the district shall possess the same power and be
4146 subject to the same duties and liabilities in respect of the
4147 special assessments under this section affecting the real estate
4148 of such county, municipality, school district, or other
4149 political subdivision which private owners of real estate
4150 possess or are subject to hereunder, and such real estate of any
4151 such county, municipality, school district, or political
4152 subdivision shall be subject to liens for said assessments in
4153 all cases where the same property would be subject to such liens
4154 had it, at the time the lien attached, been owned by a private
4155 owner."

There is a good deal of ad valorem taxation language in the bill, which is hard to assess without knowing what tax structures and rates were established by Reedy Creek hitherto. Other Magicowners will possess greater familiarity with these matters, but I thought it worthwhile to point to the enrolled text's availability.

Either that or someone with a grudge will deny anything and everything that they want to do.
