I also agree with brp. Our country, and definitely our children, need more good examples of calm and amiable discussion among people with different views. I don't think we're doing a half bad job around here.
As for Wiltony, what *do* you like?

When I get messages in many forms saying how uncomfortable exchanges were getting, then I say something. I actually like healthy discussions. Some here were teetering on not the best with some comments that quick read seemed nice, but really were kinda uncool under the surface. I think if people want to debate something specific create a new thread or find a better spot.
I spent all my covid years moderating a huge FB group. That wasn't fun. We had to eliminate mask discussions and any politics as it got so bad. Here covid misinformation is not allowed so that topic I for sure won't want to discuss much, but otherwise there are freedoms to say as you wish. Just suggesting for debates to not derail a thread and be taken elsewhere. Community Hall is open for that.
Otherwise thread drifts are good. Just realize some were not thrilled being sucked into debates when thinking there was info. People didn't expect it. So feel free to open debates/discussion in threads for that since qute a few mentioned how they wished it didn't happen where they were expecting info.
Honestly a known debate thread would be ignored by me largely.

DVC is something we have in common. And it should bring us together. The fact we are having political division on a site dedicated to a public company tells us all we need to know about our society right now. And that is something I never thought I would see in our country. But, as posted by another, I do worry about transient taxes and other issues effecting the pricing of DVC stays. I actually see this differently, and in a good way for this board and group.
There have always been people of different political and philosophical views in the country at large, and here on this board. That is not new. We saw it on the previous board as well. I'm 62 years old and it has existed all my life. Can't speak to before that
In the country, I think we'll all agree that divisiveness is increasing (and we can all have our view as to why), but I have a feeling we'll all agree on this.
In this thread, though, with diverse opinions and (sometimes strong) disagreement, I think we have been very civil, reflective of what I have seen in the country in the past and would hope for in the future. Differing opinions, disagreement to be sure, but respect for divergent opinions.
DVC does bring us together, but will never eliminate our philosophical differences. That we can be civil in discussing them here is a credit to the members of this board, the organizers and admins here and the culture started with the previous board.
Overall, I see this thread in a positive light for this board and would gladly share a drink with anyone here, including those with whom I disagree.
Cheers.
I agree with everything you say here. And if you buy the first one I got the 2nd one!!!!!!

I'm not worried now. There was an article in our local paper this morning saying that the government of our county wrote a letter to Disney inviting them to move down here because we have similar weather, better taxes, and all the other reasons they think would attract Disney. But then, DH reminded me this morning that our governor here in Texas isn't much different than DeSantis. Hope Disney doesn't notice!

She tweeted something about Disney moving there.

I was not expecting the judge to recuse himself. A relative in the 3rd degree seems somewhat far removed to me. I was thinking that mean like a 3rd cousin. I have a ton of 3rd cousins I've never met, so that does not seem like a real conflict. So I looked it up. Evidently a 3rd degree relative is closer than that. It means a first cousin, great aunt/uncle/niece/nephew, great grandparent or child, etc. Ok, that makes more sense to me. Some of the 1st cousins I grew up with are almost more like siblings, so I can understand not wanting to deal with potential conflicts. OTOH, if a relative and let's just say 1st cousin for simplicity's sake is a barrier to a judge presiding, then I wonder where that line is drawn. Is it family relationships with those named in the lawsuit? Employed by the law firm? Executives at Disney? Or any Disney or FL state government employee? It certainly seems possible does seem possible that multiple judges living in FL would have family of some degree working for Disney and/or the state. I'm really curious about the rest of the story for this recusal. Don't get me wrong, mostly I think any judge recusing themself is an example of integrity and transparency. But it feels like there is a story to this one & I'd love to hear it. From: wdwnt.com/2023/04/judge-recuses-himself-disney-desantis-lawsuit/

I'm enjoying the irony of how a certain political party pushed the idea that corporations are essentially citizens and therefore enjoy the various rights of citizens. And now that same political party is greatly angered when a large corporation is doubling down on it's constitutionally protected rights.

They will have to find their own set of ethics at some point but presuming it gets there it'll be interesting to see how SCOTUS deals with this.

Yeah, I figured the governor & board would continue. They can’t be seen to lose.
