It looks like the Board of CFTOD is filing suit against Disney in state court, while Disney sued in Federal Court. So the first order of business will be whether the suits should be combined and if so, in which court.

I'm no lawyer, but speaking of others who are.

I think this Twitter thread is pretty spot on. Key point: DeSantis is in trouble, and his allies know it (or they should). Per my comment in the article, this case is almost certainly going to get past summary judgment and into discovery. When they get to discovery, Disney is going to certainly get communication on the DeSantis side 6/ showing that this was viewpoint motivated, which is going to be *really* bad for the State's legal position. The DeSantis people know this, and they know they got a bad draw with the federal judge, 7/ At this point the best thing DeSantis could do is get a meeting with Iger, find some kind of concession on Disney's part to save some face and then say that he struck a deal to drop the litigation, which would have been too costly for the state. Otherwise, we're going to get to see his office's communications, and it's not going to be pretty. Ask Fox News how discovery worked out for them.

I was scanning through the document and stopped when I saw a table on a page that had things current as of 2020 and things approved through 2032. Here it is...Major Theme Parks 2020 = 4 ; Major Theme Parks 2032 = 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I realize that just because something is approved doesn't guarantee it will happen but I'm taking that bit of info as my "feel good" for today

Somewhere, I can't remember where, I read that Iger has been trying to get a meeting with DeSantis but that DeSantis is the one who won't talk to Iger.

DeSantis can couch this was a win if he gets some concessions, even if minor, from Disney. This could play well going into the Republican Primary. Much as I disagree with him on, well, just about everything, DeSantis is no dummy. He may well be playing the long game here since his gaze is clearly on the throne.
Cheers.

Part of me is still thinking, though, that his mindset is - unfortunately - "Nobody makes me look bad!" I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, though, and assume that he is no dummy. But that doesn't mean he's not thinking "nobody makes me look bad"

The same day that the lawsuit was filed by the board against Disney, I noticed a new TV ad here in NC for DeSantis for president, and the slogan was something like "Doesn't Back Down!" While the ad was not from his campaign (as he hasn't actually officially launched a campaign), whichever group sponsored it seems to be banking on him never dropping this suit.

I don't know that he can back down at this point - there have been laws passed by the legislature and signed into law by him. That's not something that you can just drop because you made a backroom deal.

I really, really want leaders who *can* back down and de-escalate situations. Being level-headed and thoughtful is not a sign of weakness.

Back when the Governator was in office in California he called a special election about a number of topics. It was costly and went to a resounding defeat. Arnold came out and apologized and said that it was a mistake on his part.
When I ran for a second term, I voted for a Republican for the only time (to this day) in my life.
Cheers.

Notwithstanding the criticism of Democrats as “Girlie Men”, I think the Republican “brand” has changed a lot since Chris Pratt’s father-in-law was governor of CA. Once you look stupid, weak and helpless — to other Republicans — you can never be their Presidential nominee
