So hubby and I were discussing what we were going to do with our points seeing they aren’t selling and we aren’t doing Disney parks anymore. We’ve done resort only trips twice already so decided to try Hilton Head. Wondering if I can get some guidance. We were thinking March or April next year. Does spring break affect crowds in that area? (We’d prefer quiet, thus not going during the summer). Can we get around everywhere on our bikes? Are the rooms like any other Disney resort or are there special ones to request (for some reason I keep thinking someone, maybe Sue, having a fireplace in the room. Any other input would be appreciated. I know it’s a long time before we go but looking forward to it seeing we have never even stepped foot into South Carolina let alone Hilton Head.

Absolutely love Hilton Head. It’s not too crowded in April or May. Still you may want to make a reservation right at seven months to be sure. Have fun you will love Hilton Head.

We've gone to HHI in March and October - both times were very nice, warm during the day and cool enough for a light sweatshirt in the evening. Beautiful place. Our youngest went there with her friends in the summer one year. She said the beach was nice, wide and the water not too warm. She also said there was shopping.

We have been going to HHI for over 40 years. Parents were frequent visitors with us a s kids. And I continue to go. We were there this past Feb for a couple of nights on way to Orlando. It was more crowded than I expected. But this was just the road traffic. Our first DVC HHI stay. Hotel is super nice and quiet. I do not see this place ever getting rowdy. You can bike most places. Note the beach is a bike or shuttle or car ride across the island. the one drawback I can say. There are great restaurants in the area. Enjoy the island and do not just stay at the resort.
If you have not been to Vero yet make that a must. It is my favorite of the 2 east coast beach resorts. In fact we have said to make a trip to Vero after every WDW trip. Just a nice reset.

Another Hilton Head lover here. We've gone every Thanksgiving for over 17 years, and a few other times-March, April, and February. Never in the summer though-a visit from melanoma makes you no longer want to be a beach worshipper. But we love HHI-no planning! A totally different vacation from WDW. I THINK the fireplaces are only in the Grand Villas. You're right-spring break doesn't really affect the crowds. It's really more of a "roll up the sidewalks at 9:00", real family kind of place.

Love hilton head - best kept secret. Avoid in the summer as the crowds are massive and biking is difficult at that time. March or April is a great time to visit.

I've always wanted to try HH but I'd feel like I was missing out on Vero. And I don't golf anymore, so there's that...

The resort is very small. We never request a specific building or location and have never been disappointed. The 3-bedroom grand villas have wood-burning fireplaces. There are only 5 grand villas.

We love our Hilton Head stays too. We have been in August (first time/followed a school schedule) and May a few times. We prefer May.
There are restaurants, shops, Kroger Supermarket within walking distance.
It has been a while since we visited Hilton Head - we also started to make Vero Beach a yearly trip/stop in addition to our WDW stay.

Correct - fireplaces are only in the grand villas (think there are 5 of those). I wouldn't do Hilton Head without a car. The island is bike friendly, but it's easier getting places in a car, especially after dark. March/April are good months to visit. Love this resort - there's something special about it!

I prefer HHI in the offseason. September to April but the RBC Heritage is in April so very crowded that week. Love the dining, movie theater, shopping, and birdwatching. I stay mostly Marriott on the Island to be closer to the beach but I always enjoy HHI when i stay. No elevators in buildings except the main building and Grand Villas are on the 3rd floor.

We have never been to Hilton Head either. Its one of two DVC resorts that I have not visited....The other being Aulani.

Hi Tom. Things were building up with not liking a lot of the changes over time and a horrible response, or lack thereof, to my Son having a diabetic low and them not allowing him to get food because we didn’t have our phones with us. The CM was more concerned that we didn’t have a phone to do mobile ordering than my Son almost passing out. The nail in the coffin has been park reservations. That restriction doesn’t allow us to vacation the way we do which is go with the flow. Phones/technology always stay in the room. We get on whichever bus that pulls up first. Hop to another park if we decide we want a snack from there, or to just walk around. I just refuse to participate with these restrictions. So, we are keeping the memories and the friends we’ve made and are moving on. But, we’ve attempted to sell our points twice to no avail. Just too many other contracts to choose from which leads me to believe others are frustrated too. We will see what the future holds. Maybe we will still have the points if or when Disney gets back to normal. But if I don’t see changes soon, will probably do a third attempt to sell.

I will agree that these past three years have been difficult to be a WDW visitor. I also agree that WDW has gone too far in its rigid structure of park reservations, park hopping, park tickets, dining, etc is just too much. Their quest for higher and higher profits over guest satisfaction is so over the top now. Disney manages its guests so it can better manage its employees.....cutting costs by always having the minimum cast members to do the work in the parks.
Hopefully WDW management will roll back more of these stupid rules and you can get back to your happy place.
Since you are having issues selling your points, rent them out and go spend the money else where. Annual Passes are coming back and that is a good step. WDW is slow too make changes and hopefully they will realize that they no longer need some of those restrictive policies.

We are not HH experts but have been a couple of times and enjoyed it. One of our trips was during a PGA tournament in the harbor town area (south end of the island) and the area was shut down for the tournament. If you are not there for the PGA (LIV probably does the same thing) event I would pick another weekend. Disney DVC is next to shelter harbor area that has shops, restaurants and entertainment on some evenings. We enjoyed a nicer restaurant (I forget the name) that had tables on the patio overlooking the marina and here is also a pretty standard Mexican place with a huge outdoor bar area and is close to the little amphitheater where the entertainment plays. The Disney beach house (beach access) is across the street on the Atlantic shore and is pretty nice, it includes a pool and a snack shack. It is about 1.5 miles from the DVC that is very walkable and there are Disney shuttle buses that run in-between the two locations. There is a very popular Jazz club on the island that almost always sells out so you need reservations. We have never been able to get reservation but we have friends that go to the island just for the jazz club.
