Tickets this week I’m sure are top dollar too.
My mom’s one day FL resident ticket for Epcot before the price increases back in Dec was $156.
I did some more math on old tickets I have for the time between Christmas and New Years and the prices have gone up 139%. August time frame they are up 73% from 2015. We would no longer be able to afford to visit even with DVC.

DH and I have a quick trip planned next week (I know, I know... terrible week to be there re crowds, but DH is a teacher so we're restricted on dates  ). Three park days planned, and we're looking forward to F&G, hopefully nice weather, a few meals at restaurants we enjoy, trying out a new-to-us resort (SSR), and just spending time together. Can't wait!  Being just the two of us (which never happens), we thought this would be a good opportunity to try out Genie+ for one day. Just to experiment and see if these old dogs could learn the new tricks. I've read up a bit on strategies, and we were going to take a day to challenge ourselves with this to determine whether it would be something we might want to use from time to time. I know it's variable date-based pricing, and I know this is one of the busiest times of the year. I'd talked myself into paying what I expected would be $29+tax pp. But now that it's $35+tax, we've found where I draw the line. I'm already resistant to the idea of Genie+, and if it exceeds $29 on the day we were thinking of trying it, we're going to pass. |

I took my mom and we had a great time. We did both scavenger hunts which was fun. The eggs for Easter were hard to find sometimes due to the crowds, but still really fun. {Didn't buy the egg one...just took pics and did it that way.} Retired teacher here so I get it on when you can visit! |

DD is a school social worker so we're limited when we can all go together. I decided against buying Genie+ for all of us and we're just going to do Lightning Lane if we need to. Of course that could change each morning depending on what the "boss" has to say about it! |

I totally understand the folks that don't want to pay this. My counterargument would be that Disney has gotten so busy that it is almost impossible to enjoy riding the rides when you have to wait in the long lines each time. Mine Train had a 150 minute wait on Tuesday when I was there. I have 4 kids ranging from 7 to 15. I don't want to get everyone up at 7:30AM (when on vacation) to get to the park at open, and none of us want to stay there all day to ride the rides we want. I get up in time for the 7AM Genie+ and individual Lightning Lanes. I usually make sure we get to ride Guardians & Rise a couple times while on the trip (TRON also this time), and I book LLs on Genie+ all morning and early afternoon until they are gone. We usually get to the park between 11AM and 1PM. We always get Park Hopper, and sometimes some of these LLs are at a 2nd park depending on availability, etc. We are in the park for about 6 hours total and ride 6-8 rides having ridden maybe one or two max by way of standing in the full line. We also use rider swap on the bigger rides (my 7 year old won't ride Guardians or TRON) so a couple of the kids get to ride twice. I estimate that this time of the year the LLs save us at least 6-8 hours of "line time" (probably 10 if it includes 2 premium rides). The cost of that for a family of 6 is about $375-450 a day. I already paid something like $800 to be there that day including park hopper (not to mention $2500 in airfare and what I paid for DVC & the annual dues). So my choices are to ride 2-3 rides in 6 hours or stay there from open to close to catch the 6-8 rides we like. That means no rest time or pool time. I already spend a lot of money to be there, and I am willing to drop an additional percentage to ensure we ride what we want and have plenty of time for other things. That isn't an option for everyone, and some aren't willing to spend their hard-earned money for that. But as a person that is somewhat impatient, hot-natured (I hate hate hate hot weather  ), and values their own time, it's worth it to me. So I agree the cost is ridiculous and think that Disney has gotten so very greedy, but there is no way I am going without it at this point. I do miss the old Fast Pass system, though. |

I get it...I wrote about the $35 in another post the other day...I am the same and will not stand in long lines wasting my day. To M2JRA- I find it depends on where you are going and what you want to ride. I have found the best value is in MK - just more choices. Trip last month we bought it and went on about 13 rides in 6 hours with ease in MK. In AK not really worth it except for safari (we 3 do not do EE - older kids do) and Avatar so worth it depends ...?? Same for Epcot depends on what you want to do. To get on Slinky in DHS you almost have to unless you do rope drop. So once again needs some research and how much you want to do but $35 pp is a lot.

I am, however, not going to go on vacation and pay x-amount of dollars per day for the option of waking up at 6:45am to select some rides (and probably not getting what I want) followed by spending the day in the parks playing with the app and wondering why my battery isn't lasting the whole day.

As others have said lots of times, you offer to sell me "Super Genie Plus Plus" whereupon I can pay $35 a day for make reservations for rides ahead of time (in other words, FP+), then we can talk. I won't be happy about the money but I will seriously consider it.

They charge more on days when the park is the busiest which means it's more valuable on those days when the lines are the longest. I find it is the most valuable in MK (like you) and HS. Less valuable at the others. I heard the virtual queue lines were a couple hours minimum for Guardians and TRON. No way I would've ridden those rides twice each with those lines. I don't like it and think it's too expensive, but I sure enjoy the trip more with it.

Agree with above...miss the old FP system, and very annoying to have to wake at 7am if I don't want to!!! Yes, using the app during the day also irritating since I am the one doing it...DH has no clue. Going for 2 days post cruise and may or may not go into parks. It will be hot (July) and I am not buying it again so soon so we need to discuss it. May just enjoy the resort pool and other activities, which will feel like a no-stress vaca.

I do hate having to do those things to make the day work. I’m on my phone constantly. I do it because there is no choice. It was a slap in the face to eliminate fast pass and replace it with Genie+. I haven’t paid attention to how they market it now, but when it arrived they played it up like it was a big improvement over FP. Instead it’s a big money grab. All of that sucks, but it still the only way to really utilize the parks with any semblance of efficiency right now.
