Wanna bet they price them the same as a Poly bungalow, SSR treehouse villa or Boulder Ridge cabin? More than a 2bedroom but a little less than a Grand Villa? I'm just sorry for the community at Fort Wilderness. Those are regulars who bring their campers down and plan their own festivities for the holidays. These will be 1-bedroom units. Those others listed above are all larger with more bedrooms.

Down here in the South, we call those HUD houses...
You all have "fancy" HUD houses
No, no. The current cabins are like our HUD houses. 400 square feet... 6 people crammed in there...

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out...

I'll reserve judgement until I see a point chart. If this is an affordable way to use a cabin for a few days I'll be good with it. Hopefully the new cabins will be higher quality than the trailer/cabins they currently use.

You might get weighted mosquito netting in lieu of walls.

They have a very active food truck scene over at Fort Wilderness. I took my Mom to Hoop-Dee-Doo in February and saw lots of folks visiting those. I'm assuming those are 3rd party? But I'm just not sure they have enough restaurant options to support a DVC addition...

Thinking about the timing of this, I guess it’s possible that the structure of the existing cabins have reached the point where they need to be replaced anyway. Some reports are saying they’ll be torn down and rebuilt, which allows them to improve the design too. So if they had to replace the existing cabins, why not make them DVC. Even if it takes a long time to sell the points it means there will be plenty of them available (as in undeclared) to sell to the public as they do now. And eventually they’ll recoup the costs. Still seems crazy timing though with the Poly. tomandrobin , I assume you’re as surprised by this as the rest of us? Given that you said you didn’t expect any more DVC to be built after the Poly Tower. Although these could open before the Poly so that could still be the case. I haven’t had time to read all the posts so I apologise if you’ve already posted. Just wondered if you know any more yet?

It sounds like we're thinking along the same lines. My first thought was "oh great, more points to flood the system in "resorts" people don't want to stay at. Is it wrong to hope (though I know, not likely) that if you purchase at this "resort" then you can't use your points anywhere else...regardless of direct or resale?

Sure nicer on the outside and probably better appliances and stuff but still a very small home. I know of lots in the sub 500 sq ft. We had a lot of military housing that were 1000sq ft and those were seen as big.

I agree we will not see bungalow or CCV cabin prices. It will not be rolled into a different resort. I'm curious how it will all work though. Feels so different than most DVC. PBB at least had a 2nd phase in the works from the start. This would almost be a repeat mistake IMO if this is all you get unless something is changing.

Dang, it is real. Color me shocked I checked my pack of crayolas....I couldn't find that color. Is it anything like puce? Could this be the start of moderate Disney Vacation Club? That just doesn't seem to add up. So you'll have these new moderates that cost maaaaybe $200/pt with higher point charts than SSR. For it to work, they'd have to turn SSR and OKW into complete dumps to essentially try and revalue every DVC property by dumpiness. Heck, Grand Floridian was supposed to be the top...as good as it gets, then along came Riviera. DVC has kind of painted themselves into a strange corner with the point inflation. SSR, BWV std view, OKW, AKL, all kind of in the same ballpark point wise. Then it just started shooting up. Maybe SSR will have a resurgence because of its value proposition at scale. Actually believe it or not, the SSR treehouses aren't that crazy point wise. Pretty comparable to a 2-bedroom at SSR.

VGF resort studios are certainly different than the normal DVC deluxe studios and not equal accommodations for equal point requirements. It does appear they are pushing the DVC envelope and I’m not sure I like the way it’s going.

They are farther away from the central resort. Most people who have stayed there recommend having a vehicle. We would still like to try them sometime. But they make no sense for just the 2 of us, and we are planning on AKV for our next family trip. Maybe someday...

I, for one, am thrilled! I told DH, and his response was "In a way, that makes sense!" The long-time DVC owners often go to WDW, and rarely go to the parks. They focus on the activities, primarily the ones right at the resort they're staying at. And for activities, Fort Wilderness is terrific. And for some, just walking around, enjoying the nature. DH and I are both bird-watchers, so we'd love this. Like someone here mentioned, our first visits, way back in the late 80s and early 90s, was in , what was then "The Fort Wildernes Trailer Homes". At that time we went with 3 children under 10 yo. A few years ago we went back with 2 college-aged kids, and I'd never try to put 6 in there. I just hope they don't make points for it on par with a 2 BR.
