So without Magical Express we need to figure out how to get from MCO to BWV. We don’t plan to rent a car as I don’t expect to use it once we get on property.
since there are 5 of us, a car hire will probably be cheaper and faster than 5 bus tickets.
Uber and Lyft XL are hit or miss as we really need a mini van and oftentimes a mid size SUV will show up without enough space for 5 passengers AND luggage.
any car or shuttle service recommendations?

We've use Murray Hill Transportation for a few years. I'm not sure if John, the owner, is doing any driving himself these days. We used them last summer and the driver was great.

We used Quicksilver and prefer that over bus transportation. You are right, what it would cost for 5 for Mears, you can have your own car, get picked up no waiting around, no different resort stops. We were very pleased with them and our driver. I just can’t deal with Uber/Lyft. You could get a good driver and then you can get a road warrior. With the service the drivers have to have a background check, a perfect driving record and they are insured properly. Our driver was great and has been driving with them for a decade. They allow you a 20-30 stop that is included in the price. I ordered online and it was brought out to us. Because I do love Publix, but if I went in I would be roaming the aisles. Another plus not getting picked up to go to the airport hours in advance. Especially we are TSA pre check. I don’t need to get to MCO 3 hours before my flight leaves.

Tiffany is who we have used if not renting or doing Uber/Lyft. Never had in an issue and been using close to 25 years now.

We are a family of 6 and have had good luck with Uber XL. We have used that method to and from the airport on our Disney stays probably half a dozen times or more without incident. I think one time I had to order a 2nd Uber because what arrived wouldn't hold all of us and our luggage. But that was when Uber XL stated seating for 5, and now it says seating for 6. So hopefully your family of 5 would be good.

We use Mears Connect, which is basically ME and usually faster.

I was on a solo road trip in April many years ago and was very saddened to find that Los Alamos was all closed up for the season. I was hoping for a tour. Dang. Definitely some cool hiking/camping in that area.

We actually use the Mears car service. Not cheap, but not much worse than some other options - and you can reserve an SUV or a Van (and I think they are the same price - so I always go with the Van just to have plenty of room for the 4 of us and all our luggage!). They also meet you inside and help with the luggage. We tried another service recently (Tiffany Town Car), but the cost really wasn't that much less - and on the way back to the airport, the vehicle that came was supposed to be a mini-van, and was actually a smallish SUV - and we barely fit. They insisted it was the right vehicle, but I totally disagreed. So we went back to reserving Mears.

Okay I'll float an alternative option that no one has mentioned before: 1-day car rental
The cost for a 1-day rental (PU at MCO and drop off at the Disney Car Care center) will often rival and sometimes beat the cost of multiple people on a shuttle service. You also get the flexibility of having your own car, plus if you need to run and get groceries, you can do so. And of course, by doing a one-day rental, you won't be paying the car rental fee just to leave the car parked in the resort lot for the duration of your stay!
I did this on a trip recently for my family of 7, and it worked well with one hiccup (explained below). On arrival to MCO, we picked up the car, got everyone to the resort, ran our errands, and then returned the car to the car care center near the TTC parking lot (it's at the same location as that speedway gas station). On check-out day, they picked me up from the resort that morning and brought me to the car care center, where I picked up my rental for the trip back to MCO, where we turned it in.
The hiccup was that the return of my car at the car care center (on arrival day) was after hours, so there was no shuttle for me to take back to my resort, and so I had to get an (inexpensive) uber.

Interesting idea but the potential savings isn't worth the hassle and we are pretty eager to get right to the parks after check in so I don't want to take the time to go to car care center and back.

I admittedly do not have the patience for a one day, couple of hours, rental. It's more like, "Should we rent a car so we can drive directly to a park from MCO and not have to drop luggage off at the resort?"

We use Black Lane both domestically and for our international travel. Typically not the cheapest but very professional, clean and efficient.

We just used "We Fly You Drive" from BWV to MCO last week. We had a total of 6 people, two of which required car seats - one forward and one rear facing, which they supplied. We had 4 big suitcases, two strollers and a separate car seat to use on the plane (we just used their's in the van). They picked us up in a brand new Sprinter van (on time) and Tom the driver was very nice. I was very happy with their service and will use them again. I know that if you are going from MCO to a hotel they offer a case of water, if you are interested - not sure if it's complimentary, but I certainly would have done that if we were going that direction. They are also part of "Ear for Each Other" Facebook group which is for laid off cast members.
I see on FB a lot of people ask them for quotes. However, their prices are listed on the website and were very clear, so I booked (without an initial quote) and it told me the expected price, so easy peasy. I also saw they recently started a new service to pick up your luggage earlier on the last day and then you can go to the parks or whatever and then they will pick you up and return you to the airport. I don't know anything else about this (cost, logistics, etc) ...it was just rolled out after we returned.
Anyway, we had a good experience with them and I would definitely use them in the future. We've used several different car services in the past based on availability, etc.
