Which raises another advantage of watching a movie at home...I can stop/start whenever I need to. Or rewind if I miss a bit of dialogue! After getting so used to being able to pause and rewind as necessary (or even use sub-titles if the dialogue is hard to make out), I have to really focus. The last new movie I saw “on the big screen” was Top Gun 2. We also went to see the re-release of Star Trek, and a National Theatre Live screening of a play our eldest did the lighting & video design for last summer (I went to see it in person when I was down in London but DH didn’t come with me for that trip). The only other movie I can remember seeing oIn a cinema since Covid was Downton Abbey. We’re seeing Indy tomorrow.

A few of our movie theaters are gross and have been for ages. Also sometimes movie goers really annoy the snot out of me. The only ones worth going to were kind of far and rather inconvenient especially during rush hour or the like. So we kind of stopped going - well really me as I was the one who went all the time. As sound and pictures got better at home and my strong desire not to be stuck in a sticky spot, I stopped going. This was before covid. I saw important movies in the theater but that was it. That is a shame. We are lucky to have a couple decent ones nearby. I do sometimes get irritated with fellow moviegoers. We went to see Across The Spider-Verse, and 2 seats over a guy thought it was a good idea to verbalize his opinion of certain character's choices throughout the movie. But at least the theaters are clean and up-to-date. The food/drinks/candy is is 2-3x what it should be, but I still enjoy the experience for movies that the kids or I are excited to see.

We live not far from a campus of one of the largest universities in the US. The theater there has always been sketchy even when I went to school there. Being a lazy person wanting to avoid outerbelts and stuff in the city, I get spoiled. So if I have to drive 20-30 mins no traffic, I'd find another option. Some of the good ones were the sit down to eat types. One was finally decent but closed up after covid. It's just not worth my effort as sad as it is. The closest theater actually was sold off during covid. I have no idea if the new owners made it better or not. Always happens there new owners clean it up for a year or so and then rats and infestations and stickiness set in. Kind of sad but I don't miss it that much.

( boooo, hiissss). We have just given up on going to the actual movie theatre. It is just so unaffordable now. The Coke and popcorn are way more than the tickets. Sometimes the sound is MEGA LOUD. I have just gotten too used to watching movies at home.

As University of Maryland grads( yes fear the turtle!) and our home state is Pennsylvania( “ We Are Penn State!”), playing Ohio State is the game of the year, especially in football. One year, we were waiting to fly out of BWI to Florida. The terminal was OVERTAKEN by OSU alumni and players flying home after a last minute win. What a following they have. Nicely, they allowed us lowly Terps fans a couple of seats!!! Hahaha sorry I digress. 😂

Is this where I interject that it is not an issue for your butt to fall asleep. It is an issue when it starts snoring in public.....

We just went to see Transformers in our recliner theatre. It was a 30ish seat theatre. No one else in the 12:40 showing. Except for not being able to pause at will, this was a private big screen experience Cheers,

I still enjoy going to the movies, but I find myself going less mostly due to finding time, but also due to knowing the movie will be out streaming fairly soon. In the past (pre-Covid) I probably would've seen the new Little Mermaid movie in the first couple of weeks it was out. Now, it's been so long that I figure it will be on Disney+ soon. I did take my kids to see the Super Mario movie and we also saw the new Puss & Boots in the theatre. My DS13 has a newfound freedom at the movie theatre, going with his friends, so I do think young people still enjoy going to the movie theatre.

I tell my husband to quit doing the O-H thing on vacation. This time he had no OSU stuff so we were kinda saved unless our friend was with us who likes OSU because his Disney Dad (my husband) is a fan. Cheers for his sister's team too and boy do colors clash (orange and blue) 🤣🤣

Long, long time ago. I rather wait till I can watch in the comfort of my home. There’s not many movies through the years I want to watch. When the kids, now adults we would go but no desire to any longer. You can’t even say the movie theater pop corn is worth it. It’s in big bags thrown in the machine to warm with butter machines you add to or try to coat your bag. Sorry not the same as fresh popped pop corn. Movies as in going to a movie theater just was never really my thing.

We were were slowing to a trickle before COVID and have not been since COVID. Why? There are three parts to that answer. 1) Cost of tickets for 2 is about the same as the DVD when it releases. 2) The spontaneity is gone. You have to pre-buy tickets and reserve seats. 3) The time to streaming/DVD has shortened. I can watch it on my 70" with 7.1 surround sound.

Jamie, the last movie I saw in a theatre was the Queen movie (whenever that was) at a wonderful theatre that had reclining seats, a restaurant, and a bar. I'm spoiled.
Now that I know I can buy or rent new movies for equal or less, I seriously doubt if I will ever set foot into a traditional movie theatre.
Case in point: John Wick 4. I could buy it now for $20 on Apple TV (or rent for $8), but I think I will wait until I can buy it for $12 and then watch it three times over several years.

DW still goes to a number of movies as she has AMC pass. I have gone to less as I tend to have less interest sitting in the theater for so long. Of course, in the theater I am not distracted by the cats, dogs, laundry, etc. On the flip side, there are less movies grabbing my attention. So many are sequels such as Mission Impossible 24, Fast and Furious 12 3/4, etc.. At the same time, more movies are multi-part where you see part 1 now and wait a few years for part 2 such as Dune, new Mission Impossible, Fast and Furious. I remember watching Alita: Battle Angel back in the theater in 2019 and at the end of the movie, I was totally unexpected for the movie to not wrap up the plot but was clearly part 1. How many audience members thought splitting The Hobbit into 3 movies made any sense?
Of course, how many non-sequel movies are successful and if you are risk-adverse such as Hollywood executives, you want to play it safe. That means sequels.

The last time DH saw a movie in a theater was Pirates of the Caribbean. The man just can’t sit that long! So I can go by myself or with a friend but honestly, it just doesn’t come to mind when thinking about something fun to do. Anyways, I’m old fashioned and given the choice, I’ll pull up a black and white movie or something on the older dvd’s before I check into current releases. The newer ones just don’t intrigue me as much.
