Saw Indiana Jones today and still love going to the movies at AMC . Plus the Previews are fun . There’s actually a lot of movies about to be released that look great ! I have a big screen hanging on my wall too but that’s not the same experience . When you watch any of the movies at Epcot for China or France or Canada … do you wish they were not on a big screen to share the experience with friends and family?
I would not want to wait for the release on my Home Screen for most of these movies! Have they even announced any of the streaming dates yet?

I think so. I used to go watch movies about 3 weeks after the movie came out (less crowds, etc.)
Then most movie studios decided to put them on streaming/DVD/Blu-Ray about 3 months after the initial theatrical release. I remember when it used to be 6 months+
So, at least for Disney movies, I've been waiting for them to go to Disney+ For non-Disney movies, I wait for the holidays for them to go on sale.
The last movie I saw in the theatres was Avengers Endgame.
We didn't go watch any of the other Marvel movies (after Endgame) in theatres.

IJ is getting horrible reviews from my friends that went to see it. Lots of trouble hearing dialogue and very dark in some spots. One, a huge Indy fan left in middle of the movie.

Cheers.

This is a very fun movie. Very typical Indy, Not Raiders, but very good. Not sure how a true fan of the series and vibe would not like it.
No trouble with sound or image. May have been the theatre where henrycpa 's friends saw it that caused issues, Very clear here.
As a general movie, it was OK. Some loose ends that still don't make sense to me. But for fans of Indy, this is really a theatre, rather than streaming, movie. And Ford still has it.
Cheers.

Yes, we enjoyed it. Sure you have to suspend belief but then that’s true of many movies. It was a fun adventure movie in the same style as the first three, with some nods to the previous ones. Way better than Crystal Skull. I didn’t particularly warm to Phoebe Waller-Bridge but other than that I really enjoyed it. The de-ageing effects worked well too!

I was reading an article about the 2023 movie season vs 2022.....the money difference is not there. Just seems to be a lot of hyped duds this year....or more correctly, movies that seemed to make a lot of money, but are barely covering massive budgets of some of these movies.
Here is a comparison of movies/budgets/box office
Winners Wick 4 - 90m budget/427m box office Creed 3 - 75m budget/275m box office Guardians 3 - 250m budget/837m box office Super Mario - 100m/1.3b box office Spiderman - 90m budget/611m box office
Losers Fast X - 340m budget/699m box office Mermaid - 250m budget/524m box office Elemental - 200m budget/188m box office Flash - 200m budget/246m box office
Only one Disney film has made money this year, Little Mermaid is getting close to breakeven. What stands out to me is the cost of the losers vs the cost of the winners (money makers). As of June 30th, 2023 ticket sales are up 20% over 2022 for the same time period.
For the second half of 2023, there are some projected big movie releases coming.....Barbie, Mission Impossible, Dune 2, Oppenheimer

Have been off this site for about a month, just catching up now. DH already referenced that I have the AMC A-List. I pay $20 per month, and can go to up to 3 movies per week. I rarely go that often, but 4-6 times a month is not unheard of - and because of current pricing, basically anything more than 2 per month is essentially 'free'. So I've gone to lots of movies that I wouldn't necessarily have paid even $5 or $10 for if it were a separate charge, but have enjoyed many of them. It's not just about the big blockbuster (honestly, I'm getting tired of super heroes, and even starting to be tired of animated and action films). I've really enjoyed seeing a LOT of movies lately based on true events that I didn't necessarily know much about, and learning something (and yes, I realize that I cannot believe everything in the movie, as there is definitely artistic license!). There are some other movies I haven't cared for at all, but I figure it basically didn't cost me anything as I've already broken even, so no big deal.
With our kids in college now, I have a lot more free time (since I'm no longer involved in the parent group of everything they were involved in!) and have enjoyed being able to go somewhere, relax, and just forget about everything else I need to do for a couple of hours. And no dogs or cats wanting attention, or laundry to fold, etc!
I do sort of wonder how things like the A-List get counted in terms of the box office take....

I heard good things via word of mouth. Our family went and enjoyed it. It wasn't the best IJ film, but it sure was better than Crystal Skull. Maybe I just don't require a lot to enjoy a good action movie, but there is always a group that complains a lot about every movie that comes out. I think that group is unhappy with about 95% of what is released. I've gone to see Ant-Man, Shazam, Mario Bros, Guardians 3, Spider-Man, and IJ this year. I enjoyed them all, and I think all of them got average to poor critic reviews except for Spider-Man.

Rare are the almost-flawless movies (and we all have our view of which those are).
But, as you say, there are those who will find fault with most everything and focus on negatives rather than positives. This movie certainly had drawbacks, but was entertaining and very true to the tradition of IJ movies. seems that you and I (and others) would rather focus on that than pick the nits or pay homage to the "critics."
Cheers.

I went to see IJ again today with my grandson…
Biggest surprise was the huge Applause for Nicole Kidman at the AMC Disney Springs when she talks to the audience about the importance of the THeatre …

Had two different experiences in the last two weeks. Went to see Elemental 6/25. The film was good, but in my opinion, was not at the level of a theatrical release. We also had an audience of teenagers who decided to have social hour the entire film which was obnoxious. I wanted to see Indiana Jones this past weekend and took my son. Fun film, and the audience reactions added to the excitement of the film. Just need the right chemistry of film and audience to really make it worth while.

Finally saw Dial/Destiny today, and loved it. Very entertaining, wonderful way to wrap it up. Growing up, saw SO many movies, all the time. DH and I did a LOT of movie dates, movies were one of the first things that we realized we had in common, brought us together. nowadays.. so far 2 this year, 1 movie in 2022, and 4 in 2021....Movies cost too much, take a lot of time, and I really enjoy watching them at home, and I know they'll be available soon. It is much harder to avoid spoilers now, I just saw one for the flash, and I wish I hadn't. DH loves going to the movies, and he goes a lot more often, even if it's just him. DS never wants to go to the movies, and DD goes with her friends a lot. Hard to find a movie we all want to see, can line up times, etc.
There's a few more I'd like to see on the big screen, like Mission Impossible, but we'll see.....
