About 75% of my trips are now reserved within a week so I go with what’s available. However, even prior to living here I typically aimed for walkability with any existing plans. Overall never that big of a deal for me.

I love trying new resorts. Still need to try SSR, BCV, Riviera, Aulani. My husband could stay at Wilderness Lodge every trip. So we compromise, but next trip will be SSR. We do not do split stays. I like to unpack and be done with it.

When we know that far in advance I will book our home resort SSR at 11 months. Then at 7 months see what is available and modify, we like split stays so will often pick a monorail resort and an Epcot resort. We like staying at all the different resorts and experiencing what they have to offer. The only one we haven't stayed at yet is OKW. Of course we have our favorites but I can't ever narrow it down to one lol!

Talking (and talking) about what resort we want to stay at is part of our vacation planning fun! Gives us a reason to talk Disney and make the trip seem sooner. We typically book at 11 months and then go back and forth a bunch about where to try to book at 7 months. Our priority is usually staying somewhere new but points and availability will factor in too, so many times we are at our home resort SSR. The 7 month window is approaching for our next trip, and the amount of times we’ve discussed WL vs Poly (both new to us) is not small.

We usually go with what's available at 7 months, and we've been rotating between Jambo, WL, and BWV or OKW, one of our home resorts. After 12 years we still haven't stayed at our other home resort, SSR.

I’m always looking at availability “just in case” …out of curiosity. That new Riviera Tower Studio for one seems to be very popular and difficult to book so I imagine the new duo Tower will be really really impossible at the Grand California. That will be fun to monitor those calendar months online…just in case . Does anybody ever wish they had purchased just enough points to stay one night / 11 month window at every resort ? Do you think 50 points or 100 would be enough for a Sampler Membership? I wonder if anybody did that when they offered 25 point purchases. I guess there must be at least one person that owns at every DVC resort … maybe ? We definitely don't have points at each resort. I was just thinking yesterday how the contract we scooped up during the recession was a daring move financially on our part at the time, but definitely paid off in the end. Smaller contracts might be good for banking and split stays, but would likely involve split stays (which we don't tend to mind). Part of the vacation is exploring the hotel in my mind.

We're movers. The different themes at WDW resorts and restaurants are one of our vacation enjoyments.
Pre-DVC we usually stayed at CBR because I like the polynesian theme but we did branch out to the other moderates and started using deluxe locations when we decided to join DVC. Once DVC we moved around doing split stays, even hitting HHI during our driving vacations and VB. I still prefer the walkable resorts but I also like to enjoy the others even if they're 'one & done'. We definitely have a short list of preferred locations with the one big change being SSR. Originally SSR was not a preferred destination but the renovated villas along with morphing Downtown Disney into Disney Springs has brought about our change. When we enjoy DCL we'll stay in the more 'expensive' DVC locations like GFV and PVB. Our next focus is going to be on the larger venues like Treehouses, Cabins and Cabanas (?). DH thinks the larger places are a waste of points but he's starting to sputter out vacation-wise so I figure why not enjoy the points.

We usually stay near the parks we are going to visit. If Epcot and Studios, we end up at BWV or RIV (BCV almost impossible to get if you don’t own there). If visiting MK and AK, we usually stay at VGF or Jambo. We hardly ever do more than two parks per visit when just the two of us. And, we make ADRs at the hotel area or in the parks we are visiting.
Only caveat is when we are traveling with extended family and need a GV +, we have been staying at BWV…mostly. However recently purchased enough points at OKW to book a GV every other year.
Usually book where we own at 11 months and sometimes switch at 7 months. Not a fan of split stays. Would be happy to stay anywhere!

We own at BCV and OKW. We stay in these two mostly. Years ago we or I should say I, wanted to try them all. I still do but my husband not so much. We have tried a few others and hope to do so again in the future. We don't like split stays unless we are splitting it with a Vero Beach stay (or some other destination). (We have stayed at SSR, Kidani, BWV and Wilderness Lodge/Boulder). Our next stay is booked at OKW but we will wait list BCV and Boulder (my daughter's request ). We have not wait listed in years!!! We have enjoyed all of our stays and whichever resort we are at, always miss some other one/s.

We’ve stayed at almost all the WDW resorts, just two left to try. Our choice mainly depends on how many points we have available and who is going. After years in two bedrooms with all the kids now if it’s just DH and I we’re good with a studio. In that case we just see what’s available.

DH would stay at BWV for the rest of our contract if given the chance. I would like to try some new places...but it is also very hard for me to give up BWV due to location. I do love walking to Epcot/HS. Our June trip was actually pieced together pretty late, like in April, when APs went on sale. We dropped SSR ( we'd booked in when we thought we were doing resort only) and still were able to get half the time at BW, and DH let me pick the rest of the days. I chose AKL Kidani. I do love that resort. but the other place I REALLY wanted to try was either BRV or CCV. I've not yet stayed at WL. we're back at the usual BWV in Oct. DH is going to take a solo trip in Jan, and staying at Riviera (he might put in a waitlist tho for BWV, haha) Big knock on BWV is we rarely can get a 2 bedroom, due to the lock off situation.

Yes, always. We usually start AK or SSR then move to a different choice then bcv then vgf. I know its alot of moves but we stay three weeks so the first few days we move around. I have tried all resorts on east coast except vero. Might start there next year:)

Our choice depends on the mood we are in (busy or laid back vacation), how many points I have (if getting low, SSR or AKV standard are good choices) but also what season is it. If it’s winter and Illinois is blah and gets dark outside early, we’ll tend to be at a brighter resort such as GFV. If it’s a hot, bright summer, AKV and it’s darkness seems more relaxing.

Does anyone else go back and forth over which resort to try and book? Do you purposely try something new or stick with the one you love? Do you take turns deciding? Do you end up doing split stays? A little of everything. We do a mix of DVC / Resort, long / short, and planned / spontaneous. In our 22-23 season we stayed at I think, 10 different Disney Villas / Resorts. We closed out our AP year with the Poly Honeymoon Suite just cuz we always wanted to stay there. For next year we asked our kids where they loved most and want to go again. POFQ and Beach Club (Resort) both came up as beloved places they want to get back to, and CB will be a resort we try in 2024/25 that we've never stayed at before. Our Bay Lake will always bookend our year since that's our home, and we're new owners at Boardwalk too as of this week.
