Social media attention / attention whores / money is one part. Disney is also easy to do for content. Finally, there seems to be an addiction component to Disney. There is a lot of truth in those comments.

I think there is a lot of truth to the fact that the Internet and particularly social media have made some individuals act in ways for interactions when they never actually meet or know the other individuals that would never occur in a face to face type situation. It is not just Mouseowners, Disboards, etc.; it is widespread. This type of behavior, including "fanboys" shutting down people they disagree with is not limited to Disney. If anyone is familiar with a game called Star Citizen where literally hundreds of millions of dollars have been collected to build the "end all, be all" space game and the game is still pretty "rough" with defenders of the game shouting down anyone who disagrees with the "all encompassing wonder of the game".

I wasn't involved in any of this, and I only know Mike's side of the story..... Just to to clarify.....I am venting, but its not directed at you.

I always believe there are 3 sides to every story… but I also believe the owner for Mouseowners and Creator of DVCInfo would not want there names in this discussion . Please consider removing the comments out of respect for Mouseowners and sympathy for the family of DVCMike . I know a bare minimum of truth that night… The owners were on vacation and DVCMike was asked to monitor , I think One minute Mike was trying to sell something on the mouse owners site and I’m pretty sure that was not allowed and maybe Mike was prpeparing to start his own site… ( possibly …) and “saving”information … this was 2-4 a.m. and thought to myself I have a bad feeling about this .and immediately the site was closed and shut down … I don’t recall the owners ever actually discussing this online except as information that MouseOwners would return … I think the gossip has filled in a little detail but reallly liked and respected the owner and creator of MouseOwners because she did not need Disney to give her any perks to keep her site popular … I was heartbroken when I was banned but I don’t believe she could have caused any further harm to a person that has a severe health issue with very little hope. Why continue to have anger in your heart? You don’t need to forgive but you can forget . I guess . You are right.....there there are three sides of a story. Also, as a side twist, go ask Tim at DVC News on the origins of MO and the founding of DVC News.
But to quote DVC Mike himself.....Not such an angel
(Aug 21, 2021) With all the bad news lately (such as COVID), the news that Kim & Eric are shutting down MouseOwners brought a smile to my face.
No compassion and no respect to MO. But also to be fair, Kim could be ruthless in the latter years over at MO.

DVCMike posted "his" version of the events called " How MouseOwners.com gave birth to DVCinfo.com - MouseOwner.com" but it has been scrubbed from their website. I am assuming now that Mike is gone, Russ decided to move on from its sorted past.

A lot of bad blood between the two. As I said neither side is entirely innocent in this case. I am personally aware of what Kim can do and how she treated members - even ones trying to help and be nice. It was evident here with how she handled it all. Big hint: ghosting people and then blowing up when someone close says it is time to move on isn't right. Maybe I could have tried harder, but I was getting hard pressure from some to move forward. Though reality is a year to try to settle is long enough. None of that to me is same level as Disboards. I mean I knew by 2002 what kind of guy Pete could be, but his is next level horrific. I never suspected his level of illegal crap. He has always been an ass and I never understood his followers who sucked up (maybe they were seeking fame? Who knows), but cameras and drugging people and rape? A different level there

Kim was always good to me, I have no complaints with her. There were times when she banned people that I did not agree with, some I helped get allowed back on the boards. The best posters can also be some of the naughtiest and tend push boundaries of rules. Most of them are/were harmless, but wouldn't back down either. I never banned anyone, but did suspend someone once....takes a whole, whole, whole lot for that to happen. I don't mind open discussion and I certainly don't mind opposing views. I don't like the assumptions that people make or false accusations.

I had nothing against her before or even now. I understand trauma causes things. You likely missed her drama here. Even her website update was a passive-aggressive jab. I took it as one last grab for control though. But still caused some loss of sleep for me figuring out some stuff and deciding if a permanent block was needed (it wasn't, just temp here, but given my line of work I contacted legal for advice no joke). Probably affirmed my desire to let things go. If Kim came back to post again sans attacks and drama, she's welcome honestly. We have a filter for spammers. That was my biggest worry. Outside of that I don't see needs to do much. The FB group I help manage is a slightly different story. We have people who constantly break the owners rules so we suspend. Then they try to block admin/mods. That's an auto permaban per the owners rules. But with such a huge group the amount blocked is miniscule. Most we just remove from the group. Most don't return on their own. We still allow most things to go and it's mostly fine. We're small enough here I don't worry much.

Wow! I really just check out these sites for fun and some info. Had no idea there were personalities with followings and all the drama involved. Never ran into trouble on Diz but I’ve been banned from MO’s by Kim a few times for being pro Disney when she was going on one of her anti Disney rants. Guess I used to really piss her off. That said she always let me back on after a couple of months. I’m not a podcast guy so I guess that’s why I don’t know about all of this stuff. It’s fascinating to finally learn what went down with DVC Mike. I always liked that guy when he was on MO. He was one of the nicest and most helpful folks I’ve come across in my Disney fandom. Shame to hear how it all went down and that he turned out to be a villain. Thanks again to those of you who’ve kept this going by starting Magic Owners!

I never liked the DIS boards so I have no knowledge of it. Does seem a bit strange to air your dirty laundry on the internet -especially as a business person.

I can relate to this as one who did push boundaries on MO. I got a couple of warnings and a brief timeout. When these happened, I would look at the post I made, and the response. In one case, I sided with the MO Administrator and felt that my post was not ideal (maybe not quite deserving of the snide response, but not the best I could have done).
In two other cases, it was clear that my post had been misinterpreted and the Administrator's response to publicly admonish and warn/timeout were not justified. But I also knew better than to argue and just let it go...and learned what to do differently next time.
I recently saw a t-shirt than I liked, and then bought one for myself. It's a quote from Nelson Mandela:
"I never lose. I either win, or I learn."
I learned from my MO experiences, whether I agreed with the response or not, and have taken that beyond the internet boards. I definitely appreciate he Administrator of MO for helping me in this.
Cheers.

If Kim was here causing drama.....I missed that. But now I want to see it.....lol.
Literally, my last conversation with her was me asking to buy MO. This was almost a year or was it two, before MO shut down for good. She never got back to me and b December of that year I stopped going to MouseOwners. There was no support, Kim had already been quietly killing the website for a long time prior. It was literally me and Kim, with Dirk barely logging in any time. Its hard to run a basically a fan site, when you are no longer a fan yourself. Both Kim and Dirk had sold off DVC and stopped going to Disney. Wendy left because of Politics and life. Robin left because her kids got old and they sold off their DVC. DVCMike.....enough said about him. DelawareMike initially left because the passing of his father, but quit after getting the unintentional wrath of Kim when the whole DVCMike situation went down.
