Very expensive, I think most would agree. watching diggers!? okay, now I heard it all. Son use to speak of Fl drivers when he went to school there but I use to tell him. Are they actually Fl drivers, most are transients so they are from all over. Maybe something happens when they cross the state line and see Welcome to the Sunshine State, lol. You are down there now. Enjoy, hope you have good weather. Being from Ohio I know many of my locals become snowbirds. Ohio drivers aren't the best either. So I joke that you just get tons of bad Ohio drivers there. I come home tomorrow, we'll see how 417 is tomorrow at 2 or so. I'm just laughing still about the diggers. I expected an accident or a major exit or entrance that slowed it down. Nope, digger watching. Oye! Well you can throw in your Ohio, I will throw in NJ and Pa add NY it’s a hot mess, lol. I just don’t get the fascination. We have all seen the rubber necking. The accident is on the other side and the traffic build up is because of those. Diggers, seriously, it would be laughable if it didn’t cause traffic delays. Good luck with traffic tomorrow, hope you enjoyed your trip. Ii feel like everybody I speak with is either in Disney or heading there in October. We were there last year actually hit Daytona instead. But still warmer weather and palm trees. We are going for the first in many years last day of November beginning of December so not complaining. Get to see the Christmas decorations. Bittersweet as we use to go with my parents, who have both passed. Adult kids, jobs don’t allow. One is retail management, worse time of the year to get time off. Other, doesn’t have the seniority to get TO over others. You can probably start a thread…. What is so fascinating about diggers. Do Tell. Safe travels.

I figured I'd add on to this thread as I was at the VDH on opening weekend.
The good - I love new buildings, so this clearly fit the bill. It's style is retro, and is very well done. I love the theming of the rooms. It even had that new building smell. There are BBQs and a nice, separate pool area. They have VDH merchandise and I couldn't resist getting a T-shirt. A pool bar area is still in construction. I was able to get a quick look at the 1- and 2-bedrooms. I could not see the grand villa in person, but saw the layout and can see the outside sitting area from outside the building. It will definitely be on my 'to do' list for the future. It was not 100% clear whether or not parking would be included. I can confirm that self parking is definitely included for DVC stays.
The so-so - The opening weekend was underwhelming. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I guess it was a bit more than some balloons at the hotel entrance. Check-in is at the main hotel. If you are checking in later at night, make sure you stay to the left as you are walking on the outside towards the tower. We went right and you need to cross through the main pool area to get to the tower and that gate is locked past a certain time. The TOT fee paid with each stay (similar to Aulani, but more expensive) is a bit painful. I knew this when I purchased, so it does not bother me. However, it does add to the cost. All the DL hotels are very expensive and VDH is still "cheaper" in the long run than the hotel side, but the TOT fee may scare off some folks.
The bad - I chalk this up to training, but my check in was a mess. Although I arrived around 10:00PM, it took about an hour to get me into the room. The issue centered around whether or not there was a problem with the room. They never really let on to what was happening, but they had to physically send two separate cast members to the room to check things out. The issue I had was that each time one of those cast members returned, they didn't communicate with me even though I was sitting right in front of the check out desk. I had to keep going back up to the counter to see what was going on. Then, the cast member that started the check in process disappeared, so that when the 2nd cast member came back from the inspection, I had to again go back to the counter and ask the manager what was going on. I'm not a good complainer, so I only complained a bit and was offered anytime attraction tickets. However, since I was not going into the park this trip, I declined and that was that. I'm guessing this was a one-time thing due to things being so new.
