I debated posting another Disney Movie bashing thread, but here I am.
The Marvels is a 1.5 star.
Another big budget movie, another massive loss for Disney. What a hot mess Disney's Movie House has become. Over the past few years they have either chased out or fired people who created some of their best movies. All they have is agenda and messaging, with half baked story telling mixed in for their movies. At what point do they or will they make changes?
Wish comes out in two weeks. From what I see and hear, the movie will be a hit. It follows the same formula as recent Disney female lead animations.....Moana, Encanto, Frozen, Raya. No princess or princes, but the usual character antics with their cute sidekick. Disney fans will embrace the movie because its better than most of their recent crap, it will be familiar and Disney fans need a good movie.
Wish will be the highest grossing Disney animation this year. I don't think it will gross over a billion, but I think it has a chance.....depends on word of mouth and how families receive the film.

Disney drifted from what made their movies successful. As box office numbers slipped, they did not shift back. Instead, they doubled and tripled down. Other than Encanto, I can't think of another recent Disney/Pixar movie that was really memorable for me. The bigger issue is the movies are the gateway for young children to fall in love with Disney. If the kids don't link with Disney early on, there is a lower chance they will care about Disney in the future.
I also think streaming has affected the box office. I know plenty of people (including me) who used to go to the movies all the time. Now, unless it really looks good, I just wait for it to stream. In the end, I have watched all the Disney movies/series, but I've streamed them all. I think the last Disney movie I saw in the theaters with Avengers: End Game.

We saw the preview for this several times when watching other movies at our local theatre. Other than a couple of chuckles, it looked completely missable. Not even "we don't need to see it in a theatre, but we should get it at home" missable, but "no need to watch this, ever" missable.
Cheers.

Curious because I am hoping Wish may be good. Hoping Disney may throw us a bone, or at least some new music to sing along to…

Wish does look good, and I really hope it is.
In my opinion, Marvel is in trouble. The main arc is over. Most won't stomach a 2nd large arc, particularly when there are a lot of B and C level heroes that most have never heard of and the multiverse is just too much thinking for the casual fan. At this point, they would be better off not doing an arc and sticking to individual movies.

I am definitely one of those people who used to go to the movies all the time, but now, hardly ever. I do still want to see the Marvels. I very much enjoyed the Ms Marvel series, and want to see more of that character. That's too bad it's getting such terrible review. But I'm very fine to just wait until it comes on streaming. I know it wont' be all that long. I did see and enjoy Guardians 3 this year. I think that's the only movie i"ve seen in the theater this year, will have have DH check his AMC stubs history. . I did not at all enjoy Loki, and didn't like Ant Man 3 either. I don't know why or where they are going with this multiverse, but I'm not really enjoying it.I will probably watch Daredevil 3 when it comes out, I guess that counts as Marvel. I hope Wish will be good. I still haven't seen Encanto, or any other recent animated movies. Maybe one day. Not really all that interested. I probably will watch Inside Out 2 though. I love, love the first one.
ETA I also saw Indy 5....I enjoyed it and plan to watch again soon.

I thought the Ms. Marvel series was just OK. I will watch the Marvels when it streams. Actually, one of my favorite 2nd arc movies has been The Eternals - which most don't like.

We used to go to the movies ALL THE TIME! We moved last year and now live so close to a movie theater and only go maybe once every 3 months. It doesn’t help that the movie theater by our house is so darn expensive. We just went to the movies and saw The Creator. It wasn’t amazing, but we enjoyed it. The Marvels doesn’t really hold a ton of appeal for me. We are lucky because our kids are of the age where they’ll tell us what their friends think of movies, and we can decide to go or not go based on what they say for movies geared towards kids. I am really looking forward to Inside Out 2. I’m praying it’s a good sequel because the original is one of my favorites.

Sometimes I think Disney is pumping out way too much content these days. Relative scarcity may not be a terrible thing for really good creative content. Quantity does NOT equal quality.

We have no Movie Plans in the near future. I was going to see Dune 2, but that got pushed back to March 2024. There is a chance we will be taking the boys to see Trolls (released Nov 17). I do not think we will be seeing Wish in the theaters, unless the boys want to go....as of now they do not.

We are planning to see the latest installment in the Hunger Games series as that looks good. Also, The Holdovers as we love Paul Giamatti. Then the wonka film comes out in a bit.
Cheers.

Ant Man 3 was ok, not as good as two. But I know the movie is laying ground work for future movies, and not that is gone.
Eternals....yuck! Count me in as one who did not like the movie. I was really disappointed after I watched it. The only character I liked was Kingo.

I might watch the Hunger Games Movie, I dunno.....Its a prequel. If I don't see it in the movies, I know it will end up being a filler movie on a flight to somewhere.
Wonka.....Another prequel. I love the original so much. The Depp redo was such a downgrade. I just don't think Chalamet has the acting chops to match Gene Wilder for that role.

Few could match Wilder. As much as I love Depp (as and actor and a rock star), he did not do it for me either. As for the latest, I just go into it knowing it ain't Gene and set expectations accordingly.
Cheers.
