We are planning to see the latest installment in the Hunger Games series as that looks good. Also, The Holdovers as we love Paul Giamatti. Then the wonka film comes out in a bit.
Cheers.
I might watch the Hunger Games Movie, I dunno.....Its a prequel. If I don't see it in the movies, I know it will end up being a filler movie on a flight to somewhere.
Wonka.....Another prequel. I love the original so much. The Depp redo was such a downgrade. I just don't think Chalamet has the acting chops to match Gene Wilder for that role.

Few could match Wilder. As much as I love Depp (as and actor and a rock star), he did not do it for me either. As for the latest, I just go into it knowing it ain't Gene and set expectations accordingly.
Cheers.
I am looking forward to the Hunger Games prequel. The original Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory is one of my favorite movies of all time. I had high hopes for the Depp version (since he is quite quirky). I was so disappointed that I like to pretend that version doesn't even exist. I might get myself to watch the Chalamet version, but probably on streaming. And there in lies part of the problem - many of us are saying we might watch movie A, B, or C, but not necessarily in the theaters. That's got to hurt the bottom line.

I actually did like Loki, but realized that many won't due to the multiverse being confusing. I also didn't care for Ant Man 3. I thought the Ms. Marvel series was just OK. I will watch the Marvels when it streams. Actually, one of my favorite 2nd arc movies has been The Eternals - which most don't like. I did not see Loki.
Ant Man 3 was ok, not as good as two. But I know the movie is laying ground work for future movies, and not that is gone.
Eternals....yuck! Count me in as one who did not like the movie. I was really disappointed after I watched it. The only character I liked was Kingo.
I don't know what it was with the Eternals for me. I guess I liked the concept of linking them to ancient and some modern history.

We will watch these in theatres, but this is because our local recliner theatre is $8 before 4PM on weekdays. So that can't be great for the bottom line either.

I’ll watch the Marvels at some point since Brie Larson is quite pleasant to look at. May not be in theaters because I’m way behind on my Marvel viewing, Multiverse indeed too much for me to care about.
Hope Wish is a great success. I have my doubts, but looks like it should hopefully at least be a good one. After that, who knows…

I give The Marvels 3 stars. I love the main characters but they skimmed over some stuff I wanted to see more of while there was one section where I barely avoided rolling my eyes. For more recent movies, Eternals was “meh” and I forget most of the plot, Quantumania was an obvious transition movie. I loved Black Panther, and Guardians 3.
Series-wise, I loved every second of Loki and Ms.Marvel. They are both rewatches for me. Marvel does have big shoes to fill and they’re at “meh” level for me right now.
Non- Marvel tip: If you’re prone to motion sickness but love 4D, I would recommend skipping that option for Aquaman. The preview nearly did some of our audience in.

Disney drifted from what made their movies successful. As box office numbers slipped, they did not shift back. Instead, they doubled and tripled down. Other than Encanto, I can't think of another recent Disney/Pixar movie that was really memorable for me. The bigger issue is the movies are the gateway for young children to fall in love with Disney. If the kids don't link with Disney early on, there is a lower chance they will care about Disney in the future. Completely agree. Kids today are not in love with Disney as we were and our own kids. This next generation of kiddos are watching youtube, and anime. They all know Demon Slayer and Naruto (used to be on disney). The boys knew their Marvel characters. Disney creates strong women characters at the expense of the male characters which turns many of the boys and maybe parents of boys away. The Japanese anime market is so successful because they create strong female and male characters without suppressing the other. Iger needs to go and so does Kathleen Kennedy. If Disney looses this next generation, their empire will crumble - including the parks eventually.

The second weekend for Marvels was simply brutal. This will be Disney's biggest loss for 2023, estimated to be around $400 million. The movie brought in 10.2 for the weekend, finishing third. It was the worse second week drop in the MCU franchise. Worldwide total for The Marvels is 161 million after two weeks.
I saw an ad for an upcoming movie I forgot about and I am adding it to my must watch list in December, but its going to be on Netflix......Rebel Moon.

Disney lost their collective way, and it doesn't seem like they care to find their way back. They seem to create movies for a tiny but out spoken crowd, and the rest of us don't care to see the movies that Disney is currently making.
I'm curious if Disney still employs creative writers. It seems that almost everything they have done lately is either a woke remake of a classic or continuing a storyline that may have run its course three movies ago.
Disney needs to make something new and fun and remove all the politics from it to appeal to everyone. Free Guy, was something completely stupid, but it works. It's funny, it has no real point, but at the same time, it is entertaining.
That just may take on Disney movies lately, really sad they could do so much better

It's an interesting assertion that the target audience for culturally sensitive film making is "tiny." I'd be interested to see data to support that claim.
And the performance of the films is not suitable as support for this. They're just bad movies.
Cheers.

My family are now huge anime fans. Anime is able to make strong female characters without sacrificing their male characters. Mikasa from Attack on Titan is one example of a very strong female who is not strong at the expense of the male character, but is strong and becomes stronger because of the male character. Also anime is able to tackle major life and political events without making it political -but enough so to make you think about it. Examples of this are Onepiece - Fishman Island Arc and Sabaody Arcs deals with the horrors of predjudice, discrimination, and racism, Sabaody Arc deals with human trafficking, Punk Hazzard Arc - illegal drugs and addiction. Dresrosa - things are not always what they seem. One of the main support characters is transgender (Ivanka) and is a fan favorite. Also some great quotes to make you think - Doflamingo speech at Marinford "the outcome of the war determines who the good guys are because the winners will rewrite history" Disney just doesn't get it anymore. I love the old disney movies that were just fun to watch - Lilo and Stitch are my favorite, followed by Pooh Bear. Tangled, Princess and the Frog - Love those movies and both of those movies had the female and male character grow and learn from each other and grow together. Princess and the Frog - Tianna was a workaholic, while the price was lazy and only wanted to play. the two learn from each other and grow together. I think Disney needs to go back to those old movies and realize what made them great if they don't do that they have lost the next generation.

Some very good points and I agree with a lot of what you say. However, just as there are man, Many, MANY movies with a strong male character and, perhaps, a woman along for the ride, I think that a focus on some movies that emphasize a strong woman with no need for a male counterpart are long overdue. And I would be disappointed if boys and young men were turned off by this in terms of our future.
Obviously, balance is necessary. Since movies with a strong woman and no male counterpart are in short supply, it seems that many are viewing the introduction of any films of this type as "too many" and "not balanced."
Cheers.

Guessing you haven’t heard about bud light? www.cnbc.com/2023/11/17/disney-box-office-flops-put-pressure-on-iger-bergman.htmlbut don’t take my word for, even Bob Iger knows the quality of his movies is not up to snuff…. Almost 400 million in losses in the last 9 months, ‘not having a profitable quarter since the summer of 22…

Guessing you haven’t heard about bud light? I have. And about the kerfuffle. That told me all I needed to know and reinforced what I already knew. Good example of what I was saying. Thanks for suggesting it.
