I have no actual data on how much walking happens, but I am seeing something pretty interesting this week that appears to be because of walking. We've been trying to book a stay in early December (then followed by an already booked cruise). There's a good number of 1BR's at BWV, and we generally have never had a problem booking at 10 months, let alone 11 like this time. Each day, we can see all of November has availability (except 3 random days in early Nov). All of December prior to the current day also has availability. The current day has none. And then all the days going forward have availability. But since we can't book the current day, we can't get a reservation in standard going out into the future. But, the same situation happens on the following day with the blocked day moving one forward. And the day after that, and so on. It doesn't look like it will really be an issue for us- we'll just wait til tomorrow to add the day we couldn't get today, and slowly add to our reservation a day at a time. We could also book ahead further in garden/bw view, but that's more points and patience seems to be getting us there.
Initially, we thought we just had bad luck with a late thanksgiving bleeding into the early Christmas crowd. But with just this one rolling day having issues, there have to be some number of reservations just being moved forward a day at a time. DW and I are guessing it's folks who started really early to try and walk reservations all the way to Christmas. But that's just a guess and we have no way of telling if it's 5 reservations doing this or 20.
So not really looking to complain or demand some fix. Just thought it was quite interesting to see in practice and decided to share.

Yes, that’s always been my experience at BWV. I can never book a standard view studio at exactly 11 months but I can usually pick it up day by day as the walkers move forward. The exception was my most recent trip where the standard views were taken out of service for remodeling.

yeah- our last trip was going to be now (Jan 2024) but we had to move it up to Dec 2023 due to the remodeling. Had no issues booking at 10 months last time. Guess we missed seeing the walking last time since we didn't book at 11.

I've had people noting on the Facebook group that they are seeing a lot more walking than usual too. Some are getting rather angry about people walking as well.

Cheers.

That people are walking and making it harder for them to book their room. You should see what they're saying about people who rent their points to. They're really making my look for the positive and happy side of life mantra I'm trying to follow really hard sometimes

Yes, experienced the same thing the last few times when attempting to book at 11 months. Once was able to reserve when the walking settled down (stalking the RAT). And a couple of times, random dates were available as the week progressed, but never the full time…on to plan B.

I normally walk BLT standard view for New Years Eve 12/30 & 12/31 … but this year stayed at Swan for Epcot NYE and not interested in trying for this years 2024 NYE at BLT because of all the refurbishments and delays and “extended taking longer than necessary” like the BoardWalk this year…
BLT is due for refurbs… I endured that VWL/BRV/ Copper Creek with my original Home Resort taking forever because of lots of bad weather during that period . I guess I’ll bank those points . But you are correct, it seems to be earlier and earlier walkers .
In the future do you plan to walk for those special holidays like July 4 or NYE ?

Also , this year for the first time , Texas changed up their holiday schedule and they Do Not return to school until January 10 ! Similar to Californias… I think Florida is already back to school … So I wonder how many other States are going for a later return date . Teachers vote on the holiday calendar yearly and maybe they thought this would be less competition and more discounts , but the yearly Run Disney marathon is also very popular.
Today driving past the USO exits from WDW on Interstate 4 … seriously dangerous with the ramps extending deeply into the traffic going 70-80 mph. And many reports of accidents …This morning at 8:30 a.m.
Very busy time of the year. Article on USAToday , today, suggests booking Today for flights !

Cheers.

Complaining about the folks willing to put in the legwork for something that they want to just be waiting for them. Pretty much what I was led to believe about Facebook.
Cheers.

And I moderate a really large group there. I had to put someone in a time out who got nasty with anyone who didn't agree with her too. I do enjoy facebook a lot of the time, but it's been brutal since the new year started. I think I called them entitled muppets today to someone else LOL it's not like walking cannot be done by others. But really the end result is you still have to be on top of it for day 1 or have a lot of patience and the right UY to walk for months on end.

Not a fan of walking and have never done it myself, but I get why people do. I don’t think it’s in the spirit of “what is supposed to happen,” but there are a lot of things like that in life. If DVC wanted to stop it, they easily could. Having said that, if walking were stopped, large point holders would still be able to book a couple of weeks solid and then just drop the days they don’t want. So, either way, there’s going to be somebody “playing the game.”

If I ever snap here, just assume I'm dealing with FB people there I've been at it a number of years now (since before covid and boy did covid really test my patience) and some days I do better than others.
