Sad. Always loved it there. Inside or out. A great atmosphere and food and beers were really good. Have to tell DS we won't be getting ribs and Southern Flyers on our May stay before cruise.
Hope something comparable comes in soon.

We had not been there in a while, but always liked the vibe of the place. We'll miss the feel more the actual place.
Cheers.

We love it. Sometimes I will even order it to bring the food back to the room. There are so few food choices right now by BWV.

There are so few food choices right now by BWV. This. This is the big issue. I understand they're going to park some food trucks on the Boardwalk - those aesthetics suck, btw - but the closure of Big River otherwise means there's no place to get: A burger Fries Chicken Strips It must be the worst dining resort for families under the DVC umbrella, if not on property. There are good options I suppose, but a lack of kid-friendly staples.

It is being reported that The Big River Grill at the BWV will permanently close their doors January 21. One report says Disney will bring in food trucks as a temporary replacement. This.is too bad, while the BRG didn’t have outstanding food it was a good place to drop in and grab a salad or burger and typically you didn’t need a reservation.

Ugh...the dining at Boardwalk has always been limited. Can't say I am surprised though -- never seen Big River Grill busy, and it seems so hidden. I almost forget it is there.
On the upside, the food trucks could improve the quick/casual service situation at BWV. Never been a fan of having only the bakery (now deli) and pizza window to choose from. We often make the hike to Beach Club or Swalphin to get food when staying at BWV.
Edit: Also miss the ESPN Club for the same reasons.

Even with all of our BWV stays, never thought about going. Had also never been to ESPN, so I won't really miss either, but would love to see options for that type of food come in.

We ate at Big River once, years ago, and I remember it being adequate, but not a place I wanted to go back to.
A replacement is definitely needed. Given that Disney is outsourcing most (all?) new restaurants, it'd probably be another chain. I'd prefer to have a simple burger/fries/beers kind of place.

I don't necessarily mind when they close a place as long as there is a replacement in the works. I'm not sure that food trucks during peak dining hours counts as a replacement. Hopefully, they'll get something else in soon. I did like that you could always just walk up and get food. However, that's probably why it's gone under - not enough demand.

We haven’t eaten there in years. I remember the food was okay, but not anything special. I preferred to sit outside, because inside was cramped and loud.
I hope they find a nice replacement, because our choices are very limited at BW and that new cake place doesn’t appeal to me at all.

We will sort of miss it. We did not go regularly. The few times we did, never had any issues/complaints. It hit the spot when we had no ADR. Hopefully something good will replace it - similar or improvement would be fine.

While I worry about the aesthetics of having food truck(s} along the board walk as long as they keep the seating it could work. Maybe bring the 4 rivers BBQ truck, I would love to get some brisket and take it up to the room to enjoy on the balcony. I am thinking the truck(s} will be temporary but at least it shows an understanding that they need something there.
