Exactly, i know you and Mrs.have enjoyed as we have. All this expiring talk not liking it, lol. It was one of the best ‘investments’ we made. We didn’t even have our son back then, they gave you credits towards your down payment. It depended where you were staying. We were in the Poly concierge. So we received the maximum credit. After going through the tour it was the 25th anniversary and we were supposedly the 25th guest, hmm. Confetti and they taking our daughter of for ice cream sundaes in the kid area. As we attended the full screen production. I’m not sure how they do it now, but back then they went big. With tinker coming across.with pixie dust. I don’t know if it was, hey they had FiestaWare in the villas (back then) or the pixy dust or because of credits. Our down payment was $347. . Done deal, here’s my Amex, okay we will buy. I did not take the extension, as I was like… how old will I be. We owned no mortgage both Okw contracts so no need. . Our stay at OKW is the reason we have Fiesta Ware. I even bought the turquoise color. That’s too funny. I always love FiestaWare, I have the peach/apricot, long retired from the 80’s. My mother in law asked what I wanted for Xmas. Bought it from Spiegel catalog, if anyone remembers that.. at one point I thought of getting rid of the peach, glad I didn’t. Aside from a veggie bowl that pet sitter told me dropped off counter top, I still have almost all pieces. I did order prior to moving the coffee mugs that are still there (DVC villas) or they were…with the thumb ring.

We will be 82, and definitely selling at a loss. Pulling out my abacus...carry the 2...subtract 7....divide by pi...I calculate 100% loss of principal in 2042.
Cheers.
Easy there.....Stretch first, I don't want to see you get hurt.

I'll be 85 and we are holding on to our points until the end. Some we will, some we won't.....but in all honesty, I have no idea what we will do with our points. We always talk about snow birding, but maintaining a home in Florida is a PIA and the costs are stupid these days.
I am here just for the snacks!

Well since we are the same age, I guess I will be too (82), thanks for the reminder…. If I make it. I never really thought about it when buying. I’m a okw (97) owner along with other resorts. I won’t look at it as a loss. Okw gave us years of vacations and memories, while my ‘kids’ were growing up. Many with their grandparents, when they were alive. So for me not a 100% loss, as long as we/you got use of your investment. It’s all good. When I die if there is anything left, Poly, CC etc. they can do what they want. I won’t be around. I was not even 40 when we bought in, forever young…. Continue tune. never thought about it, and this aging thing is slowly getting depressing and my contracts expiring. can we brighten this up, please. Aging is real. I am always jealous of those who bought in the 90's. You all got such a great deal over the life of your contracts.
Aging is what you make of it. I see people my (our) age and think man, they are in bad shape. Robin and I stay active, try to behave with our eating and try not to do things that will hurt us in the long run.

I saw, and now have, a t-shirt that says "It's weird to think that I'm the same age as old people." And I see people my age, and even younger, who do appear "old."
Sure, I could be in better shape, but we are quite active. Running, much walking and such. And diet, of course.
Cheers.

I few year ago was my 35th High School reunion (2019). I did not go, I have not been to one since my 5 year reunion. But I do belong to the class group that organizes the events every 5 years. I see the photos of everyone and it boogles my mind that some of those people are my age. My 40th reunion is next year.....maybe I will go, more likely not. After graduating High School, I only had two friends that kept in touch. Sadly, one dies in a car accident at 24. The other is still my best friend and we see each other and talk often.

I remember on MouseOwners you would discuss using DVC to snowbird. I liked that idea. And after thinking about it, it made sense for us. We had talked about moving to Florida. But Maryland is home. Kids are here. We're not leaving. But, it would be nice to spend a few weeks in the Jan/Feb timeframe in FL. And still have points for other trips during the year. And family trips, every so often. So, we've been adding on, slowly.

Being able to escape January to beginning of March would be ideal.
I am still of the mindset of use half, rent half of the DVC points. January 1 thru Feb 29 in 2024 would cost 1656 points at SSR in a 1-bedroom. The reality is we would not stay two months at SSR. More than likely we would move around some, add in some cruises and possible stay in other parts of Florida to explore or hang out with friends. Plus, we would drive to Florida and would stop on the way down and back at family and friends to visit.
Like you, Maryland is home. The kids and grandkids are here. Almost my whole extend family is here.

It was the most random, not thought out, researched thing we ever did, lol. But never regretted it. I usually think, research, consider and not this time, just went for it. Sorta like that 70 pt add on a DVC cruise as they were handing me champagne? Oh well, it was all good. I don’t focus on aging, the talk of expiring (contracts) just sort of made me think. In the 90’s 2042 seemed so far away. I see it all the time, as far as age especially on the beach, haha. Aging is what you make of it. I see people my (our) age and think man, they are in bad shape. We are not old, just enlightened. But your T-shirt is funny as is the memes I see and can relate to. Again we are not old, we technically don’t qualify for a senior discount at many places. Heartfelt moment of being over 55 (yes meant give discounts) leaving hospital parking lot. Attendant said, are you over 55? Yes, well you get a discount. She then told me many offer senior discounts to those 55 and over. I felt much better…

If you can make it through your 50’s the odds really go up for a long life. I’m not sure why, but lots of diseases and illness present between 50 and 60. It was a tough ten years for me, but it’s smooth sailing now!! 😆

Cheers. Okay we can agree again, we do have those moments , I thought when you mentioned the T-shirt you felt you were old, since we are the same age. I was thinking okay hold on, we are not that old. Agree, again (don’t get use to that) I as you have seen those our age and younger that I’ve thought, wow did they live a hard life? Because I’ve been surprised by their age.. btw, congrats on retiring and at what is considered a young age, enjoy! I am always jealous of those who bought in the 90's. First, no, I don't expect us to agree on things all that much, so it's nice when it happens But, yes, the t-shirt is definitely saying that our age number is also shared by people who are old. They're just not us
Cheers.
