Personally, I would like the river and island to remain. Its one of those defining features that make Magic Kingdom what it is. The train is another example. Its not needed but its iconic to what makes Magic Kingdom special. Agreed. As I said, preference is for it to remain but, to me, it doesn't rise to the level of outrage expressed in the linked article. Preference, but not mandate for me.
Cheers.
I am with you, preference but not outraged (or even mildly upset).

Also, why not put Carsland in DHS with Pixar themed areas since they are adding Monster's Inc there? It would be more cohesive instead of slapping IP into things without thematic planning. While I would agree that Carsland IP would better fit HS, the concept of keeping things where they fit best ended a while ago. I also do not think parks can be expanded beyond a certain point. There are (holiday) capacity issues at MK as it is. Villains' Land is an expansion. If they keep expanding without removing, how will you deal with the flow of people (especially around parades and fireworks and park exit after fireworks) through the cramped Main Street? It is already a problem. I guess my question is would you everyone had preferred no future plans or what they proposed? Of course, we can cherry pick every decision/idea. Personally, I'll take everything they announced over nothing, even if they means losing some things. I personally would prefer no Carsland at all vs this. I get the need to improve and add - and at times change entire rides. I really do. This is just a lot more than swapping out a ride. This is one of those things that if you don't understand I'm not sure it could be explained. There are empty unused areas of MK that could be done first before removing an important part of the park for the "capacity issues" and yes, I am putting it in quotes because they have ways to deal with that now that doesn't require taking out a whole section that provides a service to a number of visitors whether people realize it or not. MK is likely to drop for me because of this. There's no real quiet space to go to now. DHS suffers this as well which is why I rarely go for more than a 1/2 day every few trips.

This is one of those things that if you don't understand I'm not sure it could be explained. This sentence probably sums it up best.

This is one of those things that if you don't understand I'm not sure it could be explained. This sentence probably sums it up best. Not that it is good or bad either way. I just realized I tried to type out exactly the issues, and then I realized I sounded kinda crazy But probably like the hat at DHS and the hand & wand on SSE, it is probably polarizing. Possibly a lot to do with what each park means to someone and when they started going. While I would agree that Carsland IP would better fit HS, the concept of keeping things where they fit best ended a while ago. I also do not think parks can be expanded beyond a certain point. That's true, and I do get that the water will now be land, but I just feel sad about this. I know some has to do with personal issues I have and how I use that region but also for nostalgia and knowing there is space elsewhere.

We used to refer to the riverboat as an old person ride. I've been on it twice in the last few years.
While I understand the need to meet consumer demands for new rides, I really wish that Disney would get their sh** together and fix what's broken on the existing rides, and do something about the constant ride breakdowns.

I am not mad, just very disappointed in Disney's decision to remove TSI. How many acres of land does Disney own? Honestly, I would have been fine losing the Speedway.

I agree with part of it. I do think that the signs are on the wall for this. But I'm not heartbroken over this. I'd be OK with these changes even though I do like Rovers of America. If it stays, great. If it gets replaced with something new, I'll enjoy that. Slight preference to keeping it (we do like the riverboat periodically), but not a big deal to me if it is replaced.
Cheers.
This one is definitely happening. The Cars rally race will take over TSI, which will be “transformed into a rugged terrain”, and RoA drained and filled in.

I’m both sad and angry about it. It rips the soul out of the park for me. TSI holds so many memories for me ever since we first took our boys to WDW.

And the memories will always be there, at least until we get senile. From reading the article, though, it seems that the next generation doesn't want the things that we're nostalgic for. So, it seems that the best solution is for us to get to keep our memories and Disney to cater to what the next generation wants.
I'm nostalgic about using the first Mosaic browsers in the 90s and my TRS-80 Color Computer in the 80s, but happy to have moved on with progress.
I'll feel that same way as Disney moves on as well. Memories remain with new ones to be made.
I'll keep my glass half (or more) full.
Cheers.

I have always preferred Disney to Universal because of atmosphere. Universal to me has always felt just like so many rides/attractions but no real heart. (and yes, I agree the Harry Potter section is an exception). Sometimes its just nice to "be" in a park and I hope these changes don't dilute that.

It does hold for him and some of his friends - he'll be the one with buying power before we know it. I'm not that old either (young Gen X) so not sure which generation they are talking to. But no matter what it always comes down to "whatever they want" whomever "they" may be - and we may never know who "they" really is.

it seems that the next generation doesn't want the things that we're nostalgic for. Next generation's want/need list: Clean Wi-Fi or cell signal so you can read Facebook about your friends at home while in line at Disney Phone chargers everywhere, including on rides, so your battery doesn't die from watching TikTok videos of what your friends at home are doing Lots of selfie opportunities Apps to lead you to the next selfie opportunity so you don't have to waste time doing the important stuff, which is, of course, posting selfies of you riding stuff at Disney so your friends at home can work on their fomo I will say, that sometime in between "going to Disney as a young person" and "going to Disney as an adult", they filled in the 20,000 Leagues lagoon without my knowledge. They didn't even ask me first. This saddened me greatly, as 20,000 Leagues was always one of my very favoritest movies and rides as a kid. But to be honest, I can't even tell really where it was, meaning I can't "see" it and I don't miss it. I can "see" where the bathrooms were at the base of the Skyway by Peter Pan, and I say to my wife "Man, the Skyway was cool" but I guess I don't REALLY miss it. I'm trying to remember this as I try remain calm about some of these proposed changes.

My DH will be a bit sad about the Riverboat. I get what others are saying and do wish the water was staying but never been to TSI ever......do think MK has enough though at this point wish Cars was at DHS....but if Monsters Inc going there it makes sense there...
