And why would you go to florida if you’re not going to the parks? Also, waiting in lines is not fun. Riding rides is fun. So avoiding the lines by using the products = more fun. But that’s how we roll. Agree completely on the first part.
As for the second, we just go early and don't wait in lines. We don't waste our money on these products. We just get up early. Diff'rent strokes.
Cheers.

For us, also, we don't distinguish between "trip" and "vacation." They are synonymous. "I have to take a vacation to the dentist" "a vacation to the grocery store" car repair place, hospital, returning stuff, the cable place. All trips, all punch lists of tasks to be completed. You might also take a trip to Disney, yes, but to take a vacation. Hopefully. Except that I don't "take a trip" to either the dentist or the grocery store. I just "go" to these places. They're not trips to me. Vacations and trips are the same thing. Errands are not.
Just different terminology.
Cheers.

Cheers. Us too. When we are by ourselves, we don't buy anything. We just rope drop. However, when we are with people who are 1st timers or rarely go, we do have to purchase some of these products.

Errands are not.Just different terminology. Okay, different terminology, yes. Just like "take a trip" vs "just go" to the dentist. My use of the term "trip" vs "vacation" was more of a tool, a mental tool to make us reflect on the fact that if I had to spend my day trying to manage the G+ system in order to get more rides, I would end up not enjoying the sights, smells, and sounds of all the small things that make a trip to Disney special because I would be concentrated on staring at my phone and stressed that I couldn't get this or that. This would, to some effect, take the "vacation" out of my trip to Disney. Not everyone feels this way, obviously, but when people talk about trip planning and then when they come back, when I read between the lines it seems like this has happened to them, vs the old days of maybe there was nothing other than going through the gates and walking around to your heart's content.

I always say that when I am away with my sisters, we go on a Trip, and when I am away with DH then I am on vacation. A vacation, for me, should be relaxing and fun. The trips I take with my sisters are sightseeing (= work) and the beverage at the end is earned.

We plan things for every time we go on a trip. To anywhere. This is fun for us. And doing things, rather than just sitting around, is what we prefer to do. With that said, the time between the things we have planned is for general relaxing/wandering/etc.
Our most relaxed trips are Hawaii, particularly the Big Island. We go for like a week or so, and sit around the lanai a good bit. But that's typically after going for a run or a couple mile walk for coffee.
Disney? Of course there's some planning. But often nothing more than park reservations and maybe an ADR...and "which day are we going to DS for the STK Happy Hour."
Spending too much time just sitting around at Disney is a waste of time. If I want to do that, I'll go somewhere that doesn't have things like parks and other resorts to visit. We do a lot of that as well, also unplanned. "Let's get on the Skyliner and end up somewhere and wander around" sort of thing.
There are just so many ways to do Disney. Ours is heavily park-centric.
Cheers.

I, too, have lived through a slew of systems--starting with paper FP'es....and my personal evolution has been to "not care." I do not want to be so technology-driven while I'm at Disney (I kvetch up a storm over having to use my phone for a discount!), so I'm now just of the opinion that if I don't get to ride something, so be it. I'll ride it next trip. Or not. You can ride pretty much everything (except, maybe, the super dooper brand new rides) if you rope drop (or close to it), or win the "fast fingers game" w/virtual queues (and sometimes I do and sometimes I don't)....and there's nothing I "HAVE TO" ride on any given trip. So I just roll along w/out any of the "don't wait in line" systems any more--I ride what I can and simply don't worry/stress about those rides that have standby lines that are too long for my taste (and "too long" varies by mood--I've been known to wait for up to an hour and to bypass a ride w/a 20-minute wait--all just depends on my mood)....makes me grateful for DVC, my AP, and having "learned" to cope w/the technology-drives that are now part (if you accept them) of everything Disney....

I am sure bloggers are all over giving the new pass a try today. Yes they will. But... So? :-) We just rode everything at MK, EPCOT, and Hollywood in a day w/o spending $400/guest. I don't really care about reviews in which a blogger says they were tormented by having to wait thru a crowd at the Mine Train, complete with photo of the massive queue that sometimes builds outside the FP entrance (next to ads that pay them), even tho I know this queue actually takes like 2 min to get thru. Know what I'm saying? This is a luxury you can buy to get a FP to everything in a park. It will do that. Anyone who buys it will get on everything with no effort in mere hours. We all know what that's worth or not worth to each us!

I didn't want to miss out on the "Trip" argument. I think you are all wrong. That's how I describe when eat my wife's special brownies.

You must also work some magic because we weren't able to pull that off with a VIP tour guide. I'm sure they mean rode everything they wanted. Yes, it would be quite the feat to ride every single attraction at MK, Epcot, and HS in one day. Now, it is not so difficult to ride everything at one park in one day. You might need single and/or multipass LL at MK and HS. Epcot can be done with rope drop and standby.

LOL it's not as hard as you might think. Our kids are older, so I think of the headliners... for example our day...
Early entry, so we got there at like 7:20. Goal was to go on Space Mtn first, but it wasn't opening, so our kids switched it up and ran to Tron instead. After that we did Buzz and Astro Orbiters to buy some time, hope Space opened but no dice, so we gave up and moved on to Fantasyland. There we skipped the small things and walked on Haunted Mansion while it was still early. Afterwards I think we backed up to Small World, then went on to our prebooked MP for Thunder Mtn at 10. Shortly after our VQ for Tiana was called, so we did that around 10:30. Pirates was down all morning, JC was closed. At this point we doubled back to Tomorrowland, where we rode our actual pass for Tron (second time) and Space Mountain which finally opened, via a MP we picked up earlier. Now it was noon, and I'd say that was riding pretty much everything. Is it every single right? No, but definitely would have been a breeze at that point to the small stuff between noon and 10pm if we'd wanted to. Instead we ducked out, monorailed it over to Epcot, with a MP for Frozen in hand. Caught the 1pm VQ for Guardians, so got the two hardest to ride rides in Epcot with no waits. While we waited for the VQ, we did F&W and started our day-drinking while the kids did their own thing and went on stuff like Mission Space and Soarin. We met up, did Guardians, and split up for the evening. We went back to F&W, but some of our group went over to Hollywood with 3 MPs that I'd lined up for like 6, 7 and 8'ish for IIRC, Rockin, Tower and TSMM. Rise and Falcon are walk-on after that. This day for me was about pushing MP to it's limit and seeing just how much I could thrash it. I think we did ok, using it in many split group situations to book things I know each group wants. A normal day wouldn't see that much hopping but also in a normal day I think it's not really a challenge, to say, ride everything at MK without needing a guide, or really anything paid. We rode almost everything in about 1/3 of a day there with MP.
